My worry is that if these attacks continue to happen it will tear civilisations apart. It's certainly already tearing communities apart. I think the words the politicians are using after these attacks are starting to wear thin. I guess if these attacks "only" occur every three or four months then maybe it can be ridden out - although that's no comfort to those victims. If they are stepped up though - then I do genuinely fear for the relative cohesion that exists in the world.

We know it can be, but this extreme teaching of it is certainly not. How do you break the cycle of this extreme version reaching disaffected youth or radical Muslims in the west - especially as we become more and more liberal and therefore further from the teachings of this strain of Islam. For what it's worth this is what I was wondering before! No idea how you get through to those youth. Need to understand their point of view - without sympathising with it - and somehow re-educate them or normalise them somehow.

You may be able to stop some - but others will always put the Quran before anything the west teaches them. They are far more entrenched in their religious beliefs than we are. The only hope is it dies out - but my worry is the west is unable to offer a decent alternative, as we seem to be moving towards a moralistic void. Do you get me?

I don't think the West really have any idea how to stop ISIS aside from their traditional bomb everywhere campaign. Infiltration would seem to be the only plausible way. Equally dangerous are the DH's who pretend they are from ISIS or are fanbois, like the DH that walked into Lindt at Martin Pl a few years ago.

It'd probably help if the West got the heck out of the middle east so they could go back to fighting each other rather than us.

That's why I think the attempts to translate the Quran properly without a lot of the distortion by extremists may well help to re-educate the young Muslims who are being strayed down this more extremist path.

It's horrific. But more so, it's sad.

Haven't been home so barely saw anything, throughout the day. But coming home and seeing the news, it's just sad. Kids won't grow up, some families are wiped out altogether.

At the very least do a Tafe course in something and see if you like it, and if you don't, some of the stuff you do might interest you and you could pursue that?

I have no qualifications and have done ok jod23 . You don't necessarily need them depending on what you want to get into.

I'll end up doing uni part time at some point but I'm waiting until I'm sure I know what I want that to be in. Until I'm sure, it just seems a colossal waste of money and effort.

I did an electricians course a while back. Had just bought my house and it needed re-wiring, so thought I'd do it myself.

Ended up being too busy to do it all myself, but saved a grand or so by stripping all the old wiring.

Course cost me £3k so probably wasnt worth it.

Was fully qualified as an electrician though which was an indictment on the qualifications system over here. Because I don't have a clue, paid someone yesterday to change a light in my daughters room ha ha.

But it was fun, and I'm all for adult education.

Keen now on history courses. Never had much of an interest at school but find it all fascinating now. Will get nothing out of it work wise but still good anyway.

Also keen on languages but might just do it myself.

TAFE courses don't cost that much. Wouldn't recommend doing a Uni course without being sure. But tafe course can't hurt

I really can't believe you're trying to argue that having a qualification is pointless, and yet you're mid-30's still working in hospitality complaining that you haven't gotten anywhere in life.

Why not sports journalism or something Jodly? You post on here often enough, you must have at least a passing interest in sports. And some of your posts are essays, you could use that and turn it into a career.

Who's to say he hasn't gotten anywhere in life though? That's just your opinion and societies opinion of what people see as successful etc. and it's wrong. It's the same as how people think you should be married and having kids by 30 or your a failure. It puts unnecessary pressure on people.

I was referring to his first post where he said he had no idea what he wanted to do still, and was still in hospitality. Read it as a comment that he felt like he was still just treading water. Maybe I'm wrong and he absolutely loves hospitality and wants to work there his whole life.

Im not complaining about it. Im happy as larry. Life isnt about work. It's the last possible thing for me. Life is about way more things than work. I try to work as little as possible.

I have thought about that. I also like social media, that stuff intrigues me. I'd love to have a popular YouTube channel focused on Liverpool like RedMenTV or something like that. Make money, talk about Liverpool. Would be perfect.

Doubt there are social media courses though. I guess it's just get online and do it.
