Because people are suggesting this is a Muslim issue, when it's a radicalism issue.

Who is sympathetic to what cause? I'm suggesting that actually knowing what caused these issues is the only way to find the solution. Or they'll just keep happening.

I'm not excusing their actions in the slightest. The fact Muslims are being slaughtered as well is my exact point, that this shouldn't be seen as a Muslim issue.

I'm not sure you're disagreeing with me at all actually.
Are you able to have a discussion without resorting to being a patronising git?

I can assure you I disagree with you wholeheartedly.

No one on here are blaming the vast majority of Muslims - so why you felt the need to start posting as if people were is what I would like to know.

I'm sorry mate, it is however a Muslim issue - because (however misguided) they are doing it in the name of that religion. Does that mean I am advocating going out and beating up any Muslim I see or firebombing my local mosque? Of course it doesn't. That seems to be what you think anyone who condemns these radicals is one short step away from doing though.

It sounds you've been slightly radicalised somewhere yourself. Your thinking to me is not really where it's at

Where was I being patronising? o_O

You're really out of line with your comments so I suggest you drop it.

I'm more aware of SM's patronizing than anyone (ha!), but there really wasn't any there.

Let's play nicely though eh. You obviously disagree (or think you disagree) so if the discussion can't be had without getting personal, let's not have it.

You don't think that sounds patronising? Ok o_O

I'm happy to drop it. You've been out of line, and you're clearly not intending to answer my question as to why you think any previous posts were tarring all Muslims with the same brush as the extremists.

Disappointed in you mate

That's not patronising, that's a statement of fact. You weren't rebutting any of my points, just my theorising about the origins of the conflict. My aunt is in Nice at the moment, the truck drove past her appartment and there are dead bodies in the street. My girlfriend's best friend was out in the crowd and barely managed to escape after being locked into a night club. Don't for a second think this hasn't impacted me, and don't for a second try to suggest that I'm making distasteful comments for trying to seek a way for these terrible events to stop.

And **** off with your disappointment. If you think suggesting we're agreeing is patronising, but your comments are fine and dandy then just sit down and shut up.

I'm not agreeing with you though, as we are at loggerheads. So that statement was a patronising one. But on a night like this, I don't want to go into semantics.

My thoughts are with the people of Nice, France and all other victims of Islamic terrorism. At this time, that's all that needs to be said.

Let's move on

Dont think there's any point trying to understand a minority that only wants harm tbh

They hate the western world. So do a lot of people within the western world who don't go and kill 50+ innocent people.

Security was huge during the Euros.
Was pretty beefed up in Paris and Marseille when I was there the last few weeks. Just the English and Russians to worry about

Also passed through Attaturk security was big there too.

If you don't understand the issues ignorance and hate only increases on both sides. It's only a matter of time before you see expulsions of Muslims from France, and who knows what that will do.

Not sure if you thought my comment on religion being more harm than good was an attack on muslims SM but I meant relegion as a whole tends to be in the news for the wrong reasons more than the right reasons (terrorism, dodgy priests, catholics & protestants back in the day, etc.)

If 0.02% of muslims are extreme like these people is there any point pandering to them?

Understand them yes, they hate the west or whatever crap they sell to the misguided. But we should never change who we are for such a vile minority

I'm still waiting for SM to explain the issues for us. I wonder if they are similar issues that exist between rich and poor, black and white, the list goes on. Maybe it's just a matter of time before we see terrorism there too.

I'm sure a lot of people have a massive problem with negative gearing. You dont see people driving around Toorak with a semi automatic killing innoncent people do you?

I've been watching the live feed for a few hours now. I just can't get my head around it. These people have evil in their hearts, a deep-set hatred that I haven't seen before. Dark, dark days for humanity.

I don't see an end to it unfortunately. In fact it will get worse

It's like our society is at war with itself because these people are hidden in amongst our every day life. In the past it used to be country v country at war, now its amongst ourselves

Irony

Anyhow, better to have a rational discussion about this and ignore the angry emotional ones doing their usual chest thumping.

The Kuran itself obviously has a problem with violence but Islam itself isn't a problem that is really solvable anymore since there's just no way to control or change a religion without more violent splash back. It will always be the elephant in the room as long as it exists

These attacks are intensifying because ISIS is losing the war and are sending out dudes out for some last ditch bangs, ISIS itself will eventually be rooted out but who knows when the next extremist group will come up.

Indeed. They use our own freedoms and turn them against us. What can you do though

Ideally (simplisticaly too) they could just have their own land and leave everyone the **** alone. See how they go in their own little world without trade deals or freedom of movement to the civalised world.

you made it sound like it was

Oh, I thought you were being sarcastic, turns out not

Islam has had a violence problem throughout its history and there will always be elements in the Quran that justifies these extremism. It's not something we can walk away from

They want the world, not just a little part of it though. As I am sure you know, they want to establish a caliphate first and then to see the rest of the world follow their brand of Islam. We've already seen what happens to those who don't. It's not a very democratic process

I dont think Islam as a whole can be tainted as having a violence problem. Majority, actually no, all the muslims I know are disgusted with events post 9-11. In fact a lot are angry and ashamed that their religion is being tarnished by people they don't associate themselves with at all.

Would say many catholics would say they feel the same about priests touching kids. Does that mean catholics have a pedo problem because a small few do?
