I will be accepting apologies now, have been telling you mob this for months.
What is there to apologise for?

You have been hoping for months & speculating no more than us.

Best of luck to the great man! A champion player and a champion bloke. He is obviously now a one club man and that should be respected.

I would have loved to have him but he obviously wanted to stay at Freo.

Can we now get Trigg to place a call to Kosi's manager asking a couple of questions? :D
Totally concur Stiffy - particularly the last point.

I have a feeling that we will just miss Brad Ebert SC :(

Dunno why, maybe it's because he carries the Ebert name but he's the BEST midfield prospect coming out of SA this year...and I have a feeling someone will snap him up maybe only one or two picks before we do. I honestly think he's top 5.

I'm glad he's made a decision BUT

I'm surprised by the few Dockers on here trumpetting success. Sure, it's good news but surely he's just played them like a violin again and jagged a couple of extra $100k.

If Pav is going to put up with the mediocrity of Freo, he should get all the extra $'s he can. ;)

Are you serious?!

People have a bit of a flawed perception here. This is not a Gepps Cross Market or Victoria market where you can negotiate for a cheaper price because a bloke couple of counters down can offer it for cheaper.

We are talking about a top 5 player in the AFL. A champion that is a walk up into any AFL side and would be at least equal highest paid player everywhere.

Players of Pavlich's ilk do not need to negotiate. They have a price that every club WOULD play. So you don't think that Adelaide would have offered him 3 year, $2million deal?! I sure as hell am sure they would have. And you know what, he is not even that highly paid when you compare him to lesser players than him in victoria.

Pavlich didn't need to play any team off each other because he would have gotten his money no matter where he ended up.

Its like going to a top of the range jewelery store and aks if you could have a couple of $100 discount on a $500K ring. Just pointless and rather shallow.

I am so glad he re-signed, blokes like him and Judd are loyal - so it is not a shock.

On this trade for Fev ...not sure if his tood is something I would want at my club ...any Croweaters running around in Victoria you could target?

Also lets bring back SOO so you can see him represent SA with pride, Judd can wear the big V and we can see Lance Franklin in the Golf & Black.

i don't wanna ****en hear his name again for a LOOOONG time.

I hope the AFC remembers this in 5 years time when he DOES want to come home ( Bung knees and all )

I think he knows as well as anyone, this was his last chance to come home to play AFL football. He will be past it by the end of this new contract and of no interest to us or Port. He's made his choice, he will play out his career in purple and we move on.

Hopefully the club will now put all its effort into our developing young players like Sellar and Tippet, and not waste its time and money trying to lure Fevola. We have never been able to convince a half decent key forward to come to Adelaide, and probably never will, IMO its a waste of resources. We are going to have to develop one, and those two i mentioned have everything required to make it. The AFC have to now make it happen.

Stiff,

First of all, good on Matthew for trying to get some serious coin while he's at the height of his powers. He deserves it.

But your analogy is the wrong way around. We're not talking about offering a product cheaper. We're talking about getting more for it.

It's interesting that each time Pavlich has come out of contract, the whole 'will he come home' argument comes out, Matthew doesn't confirm or deny them, which in turn adds fuel to the fire, us and the PAPs get interested and this puts pressure on Freo to pay his price.

I'm not saying he's wrong in doing so - he's just playing the system that usually works against the players - but I don't think you can say he doesn't need to negotiate. Of course he does. Freo (or any club) want to spread their salary cap as best they can. If they could get him for $200k less, which in turn may keep another player from leaving or returning home, they would.

Sure, he could have got his $2 million from us or the PAPs, but if he wanted to stay in Perth, he needed Freo to pay it ... which he's achieved.

I think there is a little more than we are being told or leaked to the media regarding his so called salary for the next three years.

All along he stated that he wasn't going to sign until the end of the season.

Now what's changed his mind all of a sudden. Either he knows the next coach and agrees with that choice or there are brown paper bags waiting with his name in them when he retires.

Apparently the AFC stated that they would have had to drop a couple of senior players if we had got him here, and Roo decided to play on, to get under the salary cap. Then loosing whoever and whatever to get him over here it would have been too much.

If that is the case, I'm glad we didn't get him under those circumstances.

Yes my example is the other way around but the principle is the same.

If you listened to Cameron Schwab on 5AA you would have realise that not at one signle point did his management play off clubs against each other. In fact he never went to Freo with an offer that they needed to match. Pavlich was always going to stay and the negotiations were pretty quick and the details that took most to work out had nothing to do with $$$$. This contract was done and dusted in less than couple of weeks.

Oh and if you dig a little bit deeper in the football circles, you would find out that Pavlich had a bigger offer on table from Port. So if money was such an issue he would have singed with Port or asked Freo to match Port's $1 million per season offer.

Negotiations with players of Pavlich's ilk are pretty painless. They get worked out pretty quickly and money is never an issue. These players get as bigger slice of the salary cap as they can get and its never a sticky point in negotiations. Its the player under that rang that always push for a bit more by playing clubs off each other.

Cameron Schwab all but confirmed that Harvey is the new coach of Freo.

Excellent news, best I have heard all year. :thumbsu:

Brad Ebert, welcome to the AFC.

thats would be great picking up ebert. and wouldnt port hate that!

might make up for port taking our father son selections in the cornes brothers.

or port dobbing us in on a technicality on the father son pick with Gibbs.

I wonder what odds you would have been able to get in 1991 on an Ebert running around for us and Cornes x2 running around for Port?

Apparently the AFC stated that they would have had to drop a couple of senior players if we had got him here, and Roo decided to play on, to get under the salary cap.

In the taped interview with Triggy on Monday nights Footall Confidential? (I think its called), he said if Roo played on we would need to have some senior player move on their arrangements to fit him in. He didnt say players would have to go elsewhere, but that they would need to free up some $ by reducing their pay packets. Something I am sure a few blokes would have done to get Pav in their team for an immediate crack at a flag.

Personally I am surprised we are so close to the upper limits of the cap with our list. I reckon there must be a few blokes getting more than their real value for that to be the case.

The best players in the competition deserve the best pay-cheque. That Pavlich has accepted a contract that is less than the highest paid players (Kouta, Hird, Buckley) indicates that you are wrong, and he is being paid fair value. The reality is that pavlich will earn at least as much from other sources, investments, appearances, businesses, as he does from the clubs salary.

What has Adelaide done since 2000? Are we so mediocre that we beat you at home and away this year? Give me an infraction, because you're wrong.
Now this is truly funny. A Freo supporter asking an Adelaide supporter what they've achieved since 2000. Go and have a look at the records of the two clubs since then and get back to us genius

Well you havent won a flag in the 2000's, neither have we. So its pretty even. Prelim Finals mean jack all if you dont lift the cup.

Spoken by a supporter of a club with true inferiority complex!

How many finals series have you played in since your inception?! Oh do I hear 2?!

Here is the thing, players live to play finals football and the only way you can win a flag is if you make the finals. At least we are giving ourselves a chance to make it there by getting into the finals pretty consistently. You on the other hand have 2 underwhelming finals series to show in your entire club history.

Ask anyone, who isn't biased who has done more since 2000 and I am sure not many would pick Freo over Adelaide.
