Well Duncan has retired and it's doubtful Aldridge can successfully fill the void that TD has left. Even in the unlikely event that LaMarcus does adequately fill Duncan's vital role in the team both Parker and Ginobili are just about done along with any chip aspirations the Spurs may have had. I don't think Aldridge and Leonard is going to enough to win a chip they need a third star player in his prime to be genuine contenders in the foreseeable future hence why David West bounced out of there as quick as he could.

So now that OKC no longer has a 2 superstar duo, whether non Clipper fans (or Clipper haters) like it or not LAC appears to be the only real team that could challenge GSW in the Western Conference.

But the Spurs have Patty Mills.

Not really. Duncan's influence was waning. They picked up Pau Gasol. They will win 60+ again.

Parker is only going to continue to get worse and there's nobody else who can facilitate the offence.

Who else are the Warriors looking at to sign? Obviously their starting side is settled but their bench as we all know looks a bit thin.

Like LB#16 said they look done as true championship contenders. I mean sure if the Warriors season turns into an absolute trainwreck they're primed to be the team to come out of the West, but that's highly unlikely.

Leonard is terrific in negating the loss of Duncan defensively and Pau still is a handy player and can defend when he wants to, but like I mentioned after Durant signed for Golden State, the Spurs guards aren't up to the level needed to beat the Warriors or Cavs. They desperately need someone to help out the aging and declining Parker in the playmaking department, and it will never be Leonard. He's turned into a great offensive player, but it's obvious he's never going to be a guy you pass the ball to and let make plays from the 3 like LeBron and KD can.

Parker, Ginobili, Green, Simmons, Murray, Mills, Martin and Miller (assuming the last two return). It's a guards league and they're essentially relying on two players past their best to go up against the likes of Curry and Thompson.

It's been two straight years in the playoffs now where they haven't looked like being a championship contender, and their lack of youth and athletic ability in the backcourt has been exposed. Murray might help that, but it would be a huge surprise if he's ready to make a large impact this season.

Sure, they were good in the regular season last year, but that doesn't matter when your flaws can be exposed in the playoffs like theirs were.

Yeah definitely 55+ but I can still see them getting 60. Pop is gonna Pop. Pau comes in to offset Duncan's retirement. OKC have been cut in half. The Clippers kinda suck, Portland and Memphis should go better but I cant see anyone else claiming that number two spot behind GSW.

Spurs are still the 3rd best team in the league. Sad thing is I agree they're not a contender. Sad state of the league. You never know what will happen though.

I don't know if it's just me or because of the super teams but looking at both conferences they both seem extremely weak. There will be fairly average teams making the West playoffs which hasn't happened a lot in recent memory, although did last year with us and Mavs I guess.

You guys realize that the Warriors were about the 6th or 7th favorite to win the Championship at the start of the 14-15 season, yet you are willing to write off the Spurs as a Championship contender when they are the 3rd best team in the league.

They're obviously not favorite, but they are still a really good shot.

I think we are all seduced and using history to judge the spurs. Words like the "system", "setup" are often associated with them because of their track record in bringing in players to accommodate their specific needs. Oh and did you know Pop served in the air force? Helps you have TD, Parker, Manu. They're like Hawthorn hawks in that they can bring in anyone and they'll mesh and gel, and become better players. I feel that Ty Vickery can be the next improved player at HH.

Every year they are written off by some. Eventually you say it enough it comes true. We've all be burnt by it, saying the era is over only for the spurs to kick in again. So now we are all second guessing ourselves....

The Spurs just completed a season with a 67-15 record and an average winning margin on over 10 points. Given the pace they play at, which is very slow, they were ridiculously dominant throughout the regular season. There is no reason to believe that they cannot win 60 games again next season given the West is arguably weaker now that the Thunder are no longer a realistic title chance.

I only see three WC teams winning 50+ games (Warriors pushing 70+, Spurs 60 - 65 and Clippers 50 - 55). I'd also give the Spurs a much better chance than the Clippers of beating the Warriors (even if that chance is relatively low). Another serious foot injury to Durant and I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs got over a now shallower Warriors team.
