In 2009 Geelong went 13-0, then dropped a match to a Victorian team at Etihad by a goal, lost the week after interstate, and also in the penultimate week of the season before finishing second on the ladder. It won its qualifying final comfortably and preliminary final easily.

I'll start.

Geelong has never lost a grand final broadcast on Channel 10 (and has never won a grand final broadcast on Channel 7).

Now all we need is for a Geelong player to win the Brownlow tonight
07 -Bartel - win GF
09 - Whathisname - win GF

I hate rugby, both derivations, but the storm losing in the prelim was sad....
Yeah that's one we shouldn't bring up, not to mention Melbourne Victory in those years.

In 2007 Josh Hunt played his 99th game at GF.
In 2009 Joel Corey played his 199th game at GF.
In 2011 David Wocjinski will play his 199th game at GF.
So "one game before the milestone game" is a good sign. But there will be concerns that Mackie(150) and Varcoe(100) will line up on their milestones. And we all know what happened at Enright's 150th.

 that does it for me:rolleyes:

Ive never seen a Geelong GF win in Melbourne going back to 1989. 07 twas in Perth, 09 twas in Karlgoolie......unfortunately I'll be In Melb in 11.

100% confident we will beat them though, they have a hit a wall.

I've been getting good omens through the year, unlike last year when I had a feeling we would lose the first final to St Kilda for some time out from the game.

My daughter had a walker and a button on it would go through about 10 songs. One was the GFC theme and there was also the STK theme.

Whenever she pressed it would always play the Saints song more than the Geelong song and that was enough for me. That walker was right.

But not this year, we have Collingwoods measure and the way they are playing since the 96 point drubbing with no continuity in their game tells me they know it too.

Well the fact that the storm got stripped of their two premierships in 2010 may cancel out the omen that they have to win it in 2011:thumbsu:

Geelong lost its penultimate Home and Away season match in 2007, 2009 and 2011.

  • David Wocjinski played in the 2007 and 2009 Premiership teams and did not play in 2008.
  • Tom Hawkins played in the 2009 Premiership and did not play in 2008.
  • Geelong have won a Grand Final in October before - in 1963.
  • Geelong hadn't beaten Hawthorn in a final for 48 years, until 2011.
  • Geelong had never beaten West Coast in a final, until 2011.

Excellent. Also that in both those seasons the side that finished top did so with a 20-2 win/loss record.

And the side that finished top won a scrappy qualifying final by between 20-30 points, and had to scrap to win by a single figure margin in the prelim.

In 2004, a young Geelong team pushed a more fancied rival all the way in a prelim before ultimately coming up short.
Three years later, in 2007, they broke through for a premiership.
The next year, in 2008, they dominated the H&A season, but suffered one big loss that people were quick to write off as an anomaly. They sputtered through finals before losing the GF to a team peaking at the right time.

Personal omen
I was away overseas for half the 2007 season.
Home in Geelong the entire year 2008.
Living in London 2009.
(skips a year)
Living in Perth 2011 :D
Pretty much, if I'm not in Geelong, it's a good thing for our flag chances...

not sure if its an omen...but in this finals series

Geelong defeated Hawthorn by 31 pts
Collingwood defeated hawthorn by 3 pts

Geelong Defeteaed West Coast by 48 pts
Collingwood defeated West Coast by 20 pts.

Cats to beat pies by 28?

2007 missed ticket in ballot but got a ticket and seen a win
2008 missed ballot didn't go loss
2009 won ticket in ballot win
2011 missed ballot someone had better sell me a ticket or a bad omen

How about the footy gods feel that 3 in 5 is a worthy return for a champion team that has been unparalled in its success and its team/club mentality has flown in the face of several difficult factors not the least of which is the changing of the game and competition to suit expansion and parity amongst teams....

Go Catters.....

Or....

In 07 my first daughter was born ( Sept 07)
In 09 she was 2, and my second daughter was born ( sept 09)
In 11, oldest is 4, youngest is 2. The 2 year old needs her second flag - in 11.

Of course if we dont get there, I have to hit the missus again for more kids....:p

Read this today:

No club since Carlton won 1968-1970-1972 flags has a club set a sequence of a flag every two seasons over a five-year period.

Carlton won in 1972 under first year coach.
