Manchester United signing Casemiro says he is the "happiest man alive" after joining the club and is excited to play alongside international team-mate and "great player" Fred.

The 30-year-old midfielder arrived from Real Madrid this week in a £70m deal. He was presented at Old Trafford prior to the 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Monday night.

The victory came after back-to-back defeats at the season's start, with Fred criticised by some fans. Casemiro revealed he had spoken to his fellow Brazilian before making the move.

"He's a friend who I've played alongside in the national team for a good number of games and years," he told the club's website.

Casemiro added: "He's a great player and that's why he plays for Man Utd and Brazil. Fred has a lot of qualities."

Fred is class for Brazil playing in an advanced role. It has been maddening to see successive managers play him as a DM when he is not suited to that role.

The impression I get is that Brazil fans hate Fred and are desperate for Bruno from Newcastle to start over him. I don’t watch them so wouldn’t really know, but that’s what I’m always reading on twitter from Brazil fans.

Pretty rough that in the last game they needed a win to make the playoffs. Were 1-0 down with 10 men, then equalized. And in the last minute there was a deflection that missed a player at the back post only just.

And the guy that got the red card, released the next day.
