I find it funny that there’s been no real argument that what Lineker said was inaccurate in any way, just that he shouldn’t be allowed to say it. Then the government only further prove his point by leaning on the BBC to remove him from air.

Well he should have been punished for that. How does that make him a Conservative?

All these generalisations you vomit up. Why? It is unbecoming.
They are not generalisations, they are actual truths. Look at the way Trump and his people reacted when people questioned him/pointed out falsehoods. Fake news.

Look at ScoMo and the Liberals and their secret trials because things make them look bad otherwise. Georgia recently tried to enact a law about 20% foreign ownership means you're a foreign agent. India are doing it, Russia of course have already done it. These are all countries with Centre-Right/Right wing/Conservative governments, except Georgia but they are socially conservative in ideology. Poland, Czechia, Hungary... the list goes on.

Most people don't give a s**t about him or MOTD. He can apologise whenever he wants and rejoin the program. The highest BBC salaries are published every year and he's always at the top. Nobody is shedding a tear for him except some wet wipes on twitter.
Weird, maybe I follow a whole heap of nuffs but my twitter feed from the UK is full of people pretty angry at the BBC.

Just the highlights.

Linekar, Shearer, Murphy etc dont really add anything to the show for me, I generally fast forward when they do their bit.

So no show then. A show to me is analysis and discussion not just a bunch of YouTube videos pasted together.

Because it is ludicrous.

They are your ramblings. The Democrats were literally trying to shut down journalists yesterday in the House yesterday.

And the Democrats are centre right. Whats your point other than proving me right?

Funniest thing is the way the Tories thought they could prove Lineker wrong about them being pronto-fascists is to censor him. Love it.

Yeah but twitter very rarely represents society.

Ah OK, just like your views don't represent society I guess. Reckon most are pretty annoyed because MOTD is quite well liked by most.

Never pretented that they do. Yeah MOTD is well liked because of the blackout and not everyone having pay TV.

Analysis lol.

as with all the topics that contain empathy and apathy over the last few years, the actual issue is completely ignored and just boils down to do you like gary lineker/match of the day or not. a golden age of bastards

If he wants his job back then he can apologise. He needs the money so I'll be surprised if he doesn't roll over.

Lineker is trying to avoid paying a £4.9m tax bill. Even if he wins the legal battle he faces costs of hundreds of thousands of pounds. His apparent freedom to make political tweets could help him demonstrate that he was not a traditional employee bound by normal rules. So there could be a deliberate strategy on his part to keep making these tweets.

he's a freelance employee and the bbc have admitted as much

He's either a freelance contractor or he's an employee. He might invoice the BBC through Gary Lineker Media but HMRC might argue that for tax purposes he's effectively an employee. He uses BBC equipment. It's not like he can go and present a show for ITV. He couldn't send someone else to present Match of the Day if he did not feel like turning up.

If he tweeted that he agreed with the government policy he’d be on air today. They have no issue with him expressing an opinion, it’s just it wasn’t one they liked.

And here's the crux of the matter.

If he'd tweeted in avid support of the immigration policy no one in government would have blinked an eye.
