This. I had to start somewhere on my football journey. No one in my immediate family followed a team and I came from an AFL background. My mums Italian side that live in Italy support Juve but access to watch it wasn’t easy like the Premier league was. Who was good at the time? Arsenal. Great players, liked the kit. That quote reads to me as the equivalent of “I’m not racist, my neighbour is black”. Poor stuff from Henderson, of course the allure of that money was too good to pass on.

I don't think any player has ever said they signed for a club for more money. It's always about an 'exciting new challenge'. It's different with Henderson - his support for LGBTQ+ groups is strongly at odds with the Saudi regime's stance on homosexuality.

If he was lifting his family from poverty to comfortable or even very well off you could understand the betrayal of his previous views. But he's swapping a very rich lifestyle, £10 million per year, for an extremely rich lifestyle, £36 million per year.
