Still doesn't seem viable. A lot of the A-league clubs are cash strapped aren't they?
I've no idea how clubs like Macarthur and Western United could possibly be viable.

WU once they have their own boutique stadium built will be up and about. Getting established is very difficult for WU with covid and then not having a home.

Macarthur not sure what's going on there. Huge junior participation in SW Sydney. They have a decent stadium to call home. There's no reason why they shouldn't be attracting crowds of 10k plus consistently.

Sydney residents have never been big on attending sports. There are a few exceptions but as a general rule, it's not great.

Look at the Wanderers. Their home crowds are really poor for a well established club.

This is a myth. There is no stadium. There never will be. That whole club is a scam.

Wanderers numbers are pretty good since they were formed. Yeah number are down post covid but they'll bounce back. Overall they are a big success.

How many are going to the Sydney Derby this weekend?

I mean considering you guys conceded 4 last game and they are equal 6th best defence, pretty s**t advert.

The ad has nothing to do with Man City.

Their average attendances are a decent percentage lower to when they burst on the scene 10 years ago.

They were getting better crowds at the old Parra stadium than they are at the new ground.

Yeah covid and a downturn in form mean that isn't a huge surprise.

They'll be back.

Was declining well before Covid.

They're also given a big boost by the Sydney derby - take that crowd out of the average attendance for the season and it starts looking incredibly bleak.

WSW average attendance has been pretty strong:

The 9191 avg was when they were playing out of showgrounds which is a bit of a shitshow for an A League team.

8 and 7k after covid not great but not that surprising considering their struggles. Back to 10k this season without a Sydney Derby.

WSW will be a thriving team for a long time to come.

Take the 30k out for the Sydney derby and all those numbers fall dramatically for each of those years.

It's pretty clearly been on the way down over the last several years. They haven't come close to that 17k crowd again at any point.

They'll outlast Macarthur, they'll likely always be in the league. But they're not an especially well supported club in Western Sydney by any metric.

I'm not sure exactly when they played at showgrounds for but I feel their lower attendance averages can mostly be explained by either playing at showgrounds, poor performance or covid.

The potential is huge. Football is the #1 game of choice for kids in the west. I predict in 10 years time they'll be averaging 18-20k.

It must be noted that unlike GWS who get all sorts of concessions & help from the AFL WSW have done it all themselves.

“Equal 6th best” is hilarious.

Take the ad down lads you’ve made a fool of yourselves, they’ve got the equal 6th best defence.
It's not really leaky then is it? Averaging 1.3 goals a game against.

Yeah agree I think the stadium is zero chance. They really should’ve given that licence to SE Melb where lot more growth in the game

Football has been the number 1 sport forever up here in the junior game and it hasn't yet developed into tangible ongoing success for the Wanderers. Nothing that's happening now is any different to what's happened previously.

GWS' crowd figures get a really big bump from oppo fans. I've been to see the Blues play there several times, we outnumber them at the ground. Assume it would be similar for quite a few clubs.

WSW crowds clearly took a big hit with the stadium development and then the fall off in interest in the league and despite that are still getting reasonable crowds, don't quite know what the argument is. The league is slowly rebuilding the trust of the fans with the reversal of the GF decision but it's still going to take a while to grow back. Not sure that's a reflection on the WSW as an organisation though.
