The club doctor who should have told him and his family is no longer at the club
The FA Cardiologist at the time was found to be culpable as well.

Here's the weird and disturbing bit, that club Doctor, Charlotte Cowie, was hired by the FA in April and she's never apologised for her inaction.

You cant blame the whole club when it's just a club doctor who makes the mistake. The clubs rely on the doctors to give them the right advice on players health. That doctor has failed the young boy and his family and failed the club.

Tragic story.

It's the clubs insurers who are footing the bill. Personally I'd prefer it come out of the clubs coffers. Make the lesson stick so it doesn't repeat down the track.

As for the now 27yo.

Looks like we're paying 7m compensation for not telling a youth player and family of his abnormal heart. Resulting in a 2006 cardiac arrest and subsequent brain damage and has made him severely disabled.

Why has it taken so long to settle? If tge club's insurers paid out all the club would have to pay is the excess. Unless the insurance company denied the claim which would be pretty dirty considering the one off freak nature of the incident.

Could have easily happened to Chris Naumoff this season.

Got a transfer to a European club where, in the process of his medical, they found an undiagnosed heart condition which hadn't been found when he was at Sydney FC. Lucky they found it and he retired otherwise it could have been much worse.

Unfortunately the same couldn't be said for Fabrice Muamba or thousands of other amateur sports people over the years.

I guess it's just one of those things where you need a bit of luck as well as the right tests to catch the problem at the right time.

They only begun to sue the club about 18 months ago.
