I called the Ottens situation early.

when they were saying " he barely missed out on getting up for rd 1" - I knew I was right.

All along ive assumed the ankle (or maybe some other unnamed problem) is much worse than they are saying.

they have a tendency to do this kinda thing, spin yarns about how they'll be right next week, and then next week comes and all of a sudden they're saying they're not sure about next week, maybe 1-2 more weeks etc...

now Bomber is saying he's not even running yet - well, guess he cant of been THAT close to playing in rd 1 after all.

Kids, we may see Egan before we see Ottens.

and if thats the case, you heard it here first.

hahaha....

typical panicking...

they didn't risk him at TD has the surface was too hard on the ankles...we were only playing essendon.

GEELONG is uncertain when big man Brad Ottens will return to the field.
Ottens rolled an ankle in a reserves practice match the week before round one, and while Cats coach Mark Thompson said his star ruckman had not suffered any structural damage he was yet to resume training.
Ottens won’t play against Melbourne, with the reigning premiers unsure when the former Tiger might return to the field.
It’s funny, it just hasn’t been getting any better,” Thompson said.
“I’m sure he’s not far away but it’s all dependent on how he feels and we’re expecting or hoping that he’ll be better but he hasn’t so far.
“I think it’s starting to slowly get better now [but] he hasn’t even started running yet.”
When asked if Ottens could miss be missing for more than this week’s clash with the Demons, Thompson replied: “Oh, he might play next week, they [the doctors] are sort of saying it could be next week, it might be two weeks or three weeks, they don’t really know.”
Thompson said Max Rooke, Brent Prismall, Kane Tenace and David Johnson would all be “putting their hands up” for selection this week, while Andrew Mackie (quad) would again be missing.
While Ottens’ ankle remains a concern, the Cats have been buoyed by the form of Mark Blake and first-year ruckman Trent West.
Both impressed in Sunday’s 99-point mauling of Essendon while each also kicked goals.
But it was the team’s overall showing that has had experts raving, with some pundits believing the Cats are unbeatable in 2008.
“We don’t share that opinion,” Thompson said.
“It’s only round two and there’s a long way to go and even though we played some reasonable footy on the weekend, it [the competition] can fluctuate a fair bit.”
The Demons hope that fluctuation occurs this Sunday at Skilled Stadium on a day when the Cats will unfurl their 2007 premiership flag before taking the field.
Thompson, who watched a premiership flag unfurled as a player with Essendon before taking the field, doesn’t believe the event will give his men any more resolve or have any bearing on the outcome.
“We’re involved in it and for a little of couple of moments we’ll enjoy our performances of 2007 but I think as soon as we go back in the rooms we’ll lock back into the game,” he said.
“It’s something we have to do and it’ll be a proud moment and I’m sure there’s a lot of Geelong supporters that will come to the game just to see that moment, because it’s the first time they’ll get to see their eyes on the flag, but I’m pretty sure that we’ll be able to jump back into the game itself.
“I think it’s more for the fans.”

no whingeing about it buddy.

just calling a spade a spade.

we win with or without him, but i have to call shenaigans on the dishonesty.

they knew he wasnt right and they made it sound like he was ready rd 1, and if not then a surety for rd 2.

irrelevant...

point still stands...

Got it in one PoidaCat. If it was a final or a big game he would have played.

IMO the Cats are trying to get games into their fringe players against some of the weaker teams. The longer we keep winning, the less risk there is playing them and the more it will happen.

Think of it as the start of an AFL equivalent of the way teams like Man Utd and Liverpool consistently rotate their squads to cope with the demands of a long season.

why would need him against st kilda

according to everyone here he is superior to king and gardiner

I wonder what Ottens german is like :D

Well, the Ottens injury is all a bit confusing, but I'll bet it's nothing to panic over. I think Bomber might be playing a bit of funny buggers here.

Wouldn't surprise to have him back for the St Kilda game, although to be honest I am not sure he'll be required for that one.

Listening to SEN this morning they were eluding to the fact that it is a heel injury. Hopefully not an Achillies injury as we all know what that did to Kingy.

As long as it isn't to serious I'm looking on the positives this opportunity gives to West.

We should really tell Ottens to get everything completely right before even attempting to come back. He is such an asset to the club and i would be happier to only put him in for about 15 rounds before the finals series. Play West and Blake as much as possible early and give Ottens the chance to completely mend. Blakey will just keep getting better and better if we back him in.

Just imagine a Geelong unit with both Ottens and Egan fully fit! Scary!

Spot on!! We must have learnt from the past when we brought back players too quickly, only to compound injury problems. Given the way the playing list was managed last year we should trust that the officials know what they are doing.
Of course, the original point was whether we were being misled. If the intention was to mislead other tems, I don't give a rats! :D
