We were in a position to make a statement that we had arrived as a premiership contender & dropped it quicker than 3rd period French. Bitterly disapointing.
who really cares if we make that statement?

do we really want the pressure of being outright flag favourites? i dont know that we can handle it.. much happier that the lids still firmly on.

to tell u the truth im not too fussed about the loss on the weekend. my only concern is whether we can beat them when it counts. to say we can't because they beat us is a bit premature.. we wont know until the time comes really..

i get the impression, and i've been thinking this for a few weeks now, that mick malthouse is trying to get the team to perform whilst keeping a few aces up his sleeve. ie. davis, pendlebury, swan, didak havent been playing as prolific roles as they were last year..

either way im not reading too much into the geelong game. if anything it shows us that our ball movement going foward and our forward structures need work if we're gonna beat the saints or cats. we have beaten 3 of the other top 6 sides so we arent going too bad..

I think had we of done the simple things right, like kick goals from 30 out (Macaffer!!!!) & play close enough to the level we've shown so far, there would be less reaction.

To go down by 6 goals to a team we thought we matched up well on is tough to take for any supporter.

As I said if we played well & lost I prob wouldn't be as upset but that's not the case and it's frustrating knowing there is still a long way to go to get 2 their level.

With a few changes to the 22 i think the Pies are more than good enough for top 4, maybe even top 2, but much improvement is needed to get past the Cats.

personally i'd rather lose knowing that we could have done better and that there is room for improvement next time.

i would be shattered if i feel we had thrown everything we had at them and it still wasnt enough - that would pretty much shatter our hopes for 2010.

I am actually glad we lost to them in a way becuase if we beat them they would be hungrier when they play us in the finals and i didnt think we like being hunted especialy by the experianced finalist Geelong. All we have to do is finish top 2 and once thats done the season means nothing. The season starts week 1 of the finals and anything can happen then.

From watching the game on Fiday night it was clear that Woods was down on form. Half way through the 3rd quarter Woods went into the ruck and Geelong kicked the next 5 goals. We got smashed out of the middle during that period and could not get any momentum back. Bring back a fit Fraser for the next game.
