SLIP, SLOP, SLAP

I get skin cancer removed every six months without fail (a result of a journey with baby oil through my teenage years) - scars and blemishes everywhere BUT I still prefer the warmth over cold
Baby oil?

Soo city of freo have decided to have their aus day fireworks on the 28th of jan instead on 26th (to respect australia's indigenous people).

Thoughts? I saw a political indigenous elder was against it, so I'll take his word for it that thats not the way to go about bring everyone together.

It doesn't matter what you do, there will always be someone that gets offended.

I understand why they are doing it but all it's done is make it decisive and bought out some of the nasties. Unless it's a decision Australia wide then it's never going to have a happy ending

I did enjoy this read for those interested

I guess Fremantle will just have to secede, then the Dockers can win the FFL premiership every year.

As for the decision itself, either do the full party on Jan 26 or don't do it at all - and piss off one side or the other.. Don't move the same party to a different date - that just pisses off everyone.

So the word of one random elder is all you need? Band A.B Original released a song that shows they clearly hate the date of Australia Day, so safe to say Robert Isaacs doesn't speak for every Aboriginal.

I can understand why Aboriginal people are vehemently against the date. What I can't understand is why some white people are so vehemently in favour. Are they mad Captain James Cook fans? Or do they just not like the idea of change or Aboriginal people getting their way for once?

Ease up, I've always been for changing the date, and was happy when I first saw this was happening. However when the elder gave some insight I did think twice and thought okay yeah maybe this isnt the way to do it.
And I reckon the lads from a.b orginial would probably back the words of the elder also

Also, this demographic are likely to the the sort that have "**** Off - We're Full" T-shirts and think they can declare more recent immigrants unwelcome. It seems illogical to me.

If the move Australia Day movement is going to succeed they need to come up with an alternative date.

Simply pointing out why the day is one of sadness for indigenous Australians only serves to create division and leaves open a so when should we have it rebuttal. Find a suitable date and then make a case why that day is better than what we have

If people are really ambitious they could go for the trifecta - change to a republic, change the flag and move Australia Day to be the day on which the republic becomes official so that we celebrate the day on which we truly made our own identity away from the old colonial ties

Just make it the 27th of January, problem solved.
It's been that before

Used to be that Australia Day was on the first Monday after the 26th or the closest Monday to the 26th, I forget which. In any case it was always a Monday to make it a long weekend and only changed to being done on the actual 26th in the 90's I think

How about 26th May - it's currently called Sorry Day but maybe as a sign of new beginnings and going forward it can be renamed Australia Day
Most of us have nothing to be Sorry for though?
