I don't like the really rich suburbs. Not that I have ever hung out in them, just driven through. I don't get a good vibe from them.

Most wealthy suburbs are boring and conservative despite their aesthetics. That's in most cities in this country.

Would rather a middle class inner city suburb full of vibe IMO. Leederville, Mt Lawley, Freo heck even Subi.

I like the stretch from Freo east to the freeway. Pretty much covers everything. Freo for your entertainment area, the richer suburbs along the river, melviĺles industrial area, garden city and most people are fairly decent. Any further south like below Leach and the people quality drops off pretty fast.

Subiaco is definitely one of the wealthier suburbs, even moreso since they redeveloped that shitty industrial area around the railway line.

Leederville isn't quite as wealthy as Subiaco but it isn't middle class, I've rented there but there's no way I could afford to buy a house there.

That's the spirit of the suburb making sure you keep driving back to your own povo neighbourhood so property prices don't drop.

Good to hear.

Its frustrating that Perth has got rid of so many suburbs like that. I grew up in Shenton Park and love the historical houses. Too may suburbs developed over the history.

the rich suburbs are a nice place to live.

beaches, the river, yacht clubs, 3 bunnings (a guy thing), golf courses, outdoor cinemas (camelot, somerville uwa and moonlight kings park), 15 minutes to freo, 10 minutes to the city, kings park, great restaurants and cafes (high end and university prices), claremont shopping precinct, great markets at UWA and Subiaco, the best schools including quality public schools.

it is a little old school where most shop staff know your name and what you like. I like the fact Tom the greek makes my cakes, Doshi designs my furniture, Tony is my carpenter, Herb is my caterer.......etc etc. You feel like you belong in a place when you know everyone rather than just exist in a place.


The down side is the average age, the ridiculous house prices ($1.5m is probably an entry point and a $3m home will get you something nice, on $3m the stamp duty is another $150k, then another $6k a year land tax plus $4k council rates). The large lawns means water bills of $700 and similar for power. Then add the building maintenance costs of $50k-100k per year.

A place in Shenton Park and parts of Mosman could be a pretty amazing entry point with a much lower price tag but enjoy the same proximity.

A great area which probably boasts the best cafe/ bar district just up the road

the university, golf courses, the river etc are great amenities. the 15 minute drive to the airport is also handy given Perth's large FIFO contingent
