i dont see a problem with what hes doing.
i only find a problem if people are using connections to put aside things before the doors even open or any sort of preferential treat meant that way.
If its just getting friends to go for him its still a free for all and good luck to them
But if im lining up at 8 and people have already had stuff put aside thats when id be angry

Yeah thats not what I'm doing.

Last year, I didnt know the people and friends ive made now through trade pages etc. I would certainly not want to do anything to hurt them this time. Much prefer to keep my friendships.

The whole sending a group of people to sweep whats left after "the collectors" get to it is the shit thing about this. There will be disappointed people again because of a few selfish people, but I guess we should just be used to this kind of behaviour by now from some individuals.

oh and lol at anyone who thinks a club employee will be casually going in to see if they can find anything.

You're truly an exploitative arseh*le.

I'll be sure to let you know what I actually end up with. My guess is somewhere between 0-2 guernseys, just like everyone else.

You're a proven liar. No one will believe you now.

I think it's fairly safe to say following:
- Based on past behaviour this seems suss
- However, Chokito is based in Perth so simply can't get there himself.
- But he's asking staff members to get things for him
- Based on point 1, and experience in employment, staff = first dibs on merch
- Therefore, seems suss, even if unintentional.

I'm not mad at Chokito really but I think there needs to be a bit of integrity about how staff go about reserving gear to ensure that its going about the 'right' way as from an external perspective its easy to see how an assumption could be made.

I don't get the concept of AFL Guernsey "collectors"

Ok I get the concept, just don't understand why. Surely the you just end up selling it it another collector. It's not like this is Arsenal/Barcelona/LA Lakers/Patriots gear that has a pool of people worldwide that would pay for these jumpers

Reading about collectors and people that work at the club getting in early for first dibs puts me off completely. I'll be sticking to my retail guernsey with iron on numbers, thank you very much.

The first one of these sales I ever went to was at the end of the 2005 or 2006 season (whichever year we moved from Nike to reebok). There was slim pickings in there with mostly fringe player guerrnsey's left when I arrived, but I got lucky and found a Michael Wilson match worn.
That very night I looked on eBay and there was already a stack of them up on eBay, including a Nathan Lonie going for $240 buy it now. Utterly ridiculous. **** these people.

But who actually pays that? Surely the profit margins aren't worth it

It's not as if he is taking the last carton of drinking water after a disaster ffs.

He is buying second hand junk. Calm the farm.

You'll buy the farm in a minute.

I actually can't believe this has happened again lol.

I think the moral of the story is:
  • If you're going to use connections, maybe keep it to SMS/Private Message?
  • Don't brag or boast about it.
  • If you want to take advantage of a situation you are privileged too - that's fine, but maybe spare a thought for other supporters who may not have the same connections to have 10 friends get to the club at 3am to line up for you (I know, "they can do it too!"; but lets get real for a second - no one should have to organize an army of people to line up at 3am for you to get some worn player clothing).
  • This kind of thing can impact more people than just the forum poster, so spare a thought to how it may impact the club employee, other members, or the guy from the club who has to spend half their day having to deal with this stupid shit.
I would say as far as "connections" I would have the availability to ask someone for a guernsey from this sale put aside for me if I wanted to, and sure there was a few moments where I was like 'omgz i should get a ryder guernsey put aside from kochi3' but I took a step back, took a second and realized I am pretty fortunate to already have a fair collection so I will leave this to the general public/members who may not be so lucky.

Just food for thought.
