What did they actually do in the pre-season?

They don't appear any fitter.

Certainly not stronger.

Skills are the same as last year or possibly worse.

They aren't any smarter or switched on.

Game plan is as confusing as ever.

WTF did they focus on?

Quite simply I'd say 30% of our list are lazy, 30% are kids and 30% just aren't very good.

Perfect - sums us up Dom, we are only 90% of a team at the moment...

Mind if I use it for my sig (originality was never my strong point)?

i'm beginning to wonder if they simply can't be bothered to work hard without robocop threatening to make them do 500 pushups..

I dont get it.

There was all this talk during the pre- season on how GREAT our fitness training was going and how great our new fitness coaches were.

I watch our team and i wonder if it was Mr Magoo reporting on this so called fabulous fitness regime, imo we see more unfit than last year.
Or perhaps we are fitter and we didnt even think about practising hand balling to a target becasue we just wanted to be fitter.

We were losing some games by less than 10pts last season and we got mocked for our "fade outs". Now we dont fade out, we dont get an opportunity to fade out; because we give the pill to the other team and allow them to go on and win ... perhaps this is one way to combat the fade out?

Either way Im not so sure we are a fitter or stronger team at this point in time.

I honestly think more time was dedicated to the NEW ZONE game plan that other teams are adding. And also learning a new way and Plan to overcome it......... And therefore, cutting in on skills practice.... And I'm sure they are practicing to the max number of hours allowed by the players association....

Hopefully the players are doing the EXTRA needed to fix it....

Remember its taken Clarkson a few years to get the Hawk boys to learn his PLan.(Rolling Zone)... In the first few years, it was said the players were having a hard time adapting to it...and it was too complicated.

The guys are fit.

The problem is when we miss targets, we spend too much energy chasing after ball, or chasing the opponents instead of creating play.

Skill level is the problem.

How guys can get to this level and not have a reliable left foot is beyond me. I have my young bloke working on his this year (he's 11) and I (and he) can see the difference already.
Pick out a player on our list with a decent non-prefered....

And FFS it's not that difficult to take a group of 5 or 6 players aside for 15 minutes a day and work out a goal kicking routine for each of them.
Hase off 2 steps, and I dunno WTF Palmer was doing is not acceptable.
We have a skills coach (Michael Prior I think), he should wear the blame, as well as Harvey for not scheduling enough time on actual skills.

It's just a killer to watch your own side make basic mistakes over and over again. The goal kicking that Dockerz mentioned is a classic example

I reckon from now on they should have the footy's out from day one of the preseason.

No more just running laps, time trials etc. All their fitness work should involve kicking, hand passing, marking. And all benchmark testing should be done based on skills with a ball.

I don't know about you but I tend to run faster, run longer try harder when I'm chasing a ball and their skills will be much improved for it.

The lack of proper goalkicking routine by Haselby and Palmer was appalling. Haselby used to be reliable in front of goal but not anymore. They both need a kick up the backside of similar proportion to the one handed out to Duffield. Palmer at least would take some notice.
