Nope. I think there is something wrong with the line from my house to the exchange.

Bringing a technician will be a pain and they never fix it the first time (or second or third). Make sure you request that you don't have to pay your next bill and they should credit your amount to when the problem started.

How long can you get them? It's about 5m between my TV and the lounge.
As long as you need. I used one 10m long until I had a point put in the bedroom and it worked fine. I'd buy one that's at least couple of metres longer than you think you need just to be sure and you'll get it for under $20 (just don't buy the really cheap stuff).

You could also get a longer Foxtel cable for not much more and have the box in your room.

Just a question re Foxtel. We have a Foxtel box in our loungeroom but only me and my mate watch it, housemate #1 has his own box in his room and housemate #2 just streams shows in his room. Mate is moving out, and I've just gotten a TV in my room. Would it be possible to unplug the Foxtel box from the loungeroom and connect it to my own TV? Or is it too simple that it wouldn't work?

Q. Please tell me it's the annoying asswipe who steals your coke and ice creams that is moving out?!?

Question about youth allowance/uni payment stuff. I want to get it and am eligible but I want to know if I have to go in for those bullshit visits and report my income and stuff every fortnight? When I left school and was only working a few hours a week I was on NewStart or whatever they call it and had to go in every fortnight and talk to them and it was quite annoying. I'd really like some free money but not if I have to sit in Centrelink for an hour every couple of weeks.

I'd love to help but it's changed since I was at uni. I know this because I was giving wrong advice to students.

You may have to go in to make an appointment and wait for hours to find out if you need to keep coming in to wait for hours. You can try calling but I assure you, you will most likely have to be on hold for ages. Try reading off their website.

Anyway, I had to go in once a fortnight to get Austudy or whatever after taking a year off to be classified as independent. If you have to do this then my advice is to go first thing in the morning to avoid queues

It's tough when you have to work for your free money.

Once on a Centrelink payment, you should be able to do most of it online now. Certainly reporting income can be done online.

So I'm probably about to do the stupid thing and get married again. Won't be for a while as I'm still married as my ex-wife won't sign anything but-
Where can I get a decent ring. Owing to the power of the Internet, I'm in the habit of researching and comparing prices for pretty much everything.
I remember my ex-girlfriend whose dad was a diamond dealer used to crap on about how much people get ripped off.
My budget is $10-15K. Any tips?

10-15k on a ring? Bloody hell.

Really? I don't think so.

There used to be a 'three months' wages' rule. & Even as a measly teacher $10-15k is not even that.

The first time I did it, I went in an saw a ring that I liked and got the details. It was $8K. 6 months later, I happened to walk past the same shop and the same ring was almost $3K off! That really annoyed me- that I was going to pay another $3K. Hence, why I'm here. If I pay thousands extra for something then I'll be pissed.

Anyway, a lady at work married a doctor late 2013 (Incidently, where my current partner and I first hooked up) and her ring was $120,000. No shit!!!!

Yeah I've heard about the three months' wages rule. I wouldn't want a ring worth anywhere near that much - would save it for the honeymoon or house deposit, if needed. I just can't appreciate the difference in quality between a $2.5k ring to a $15k ring to make it worth it.

All the best with it though, hope you find a good deal.

Can you please share this POV with the 10 million other women in Australia? Thanks. :)

Haha, I'm sure there are plenty of us out there.

My friends are getting married in a couple of months - they're doing a very low key one, with more of an afternoon tea (if that) than a sit down meal, ceremony in a friend's bit of land etc. They've estimated that including absolutely everything it'll cost $2.5k. They're 23 and 24, so I'm glad they're not going over the top.

My parents got married at my aunty's house, reception in the free community hall, no bridesmaids/groomsmen, wedding cake made by mum's aunty, dress made by her sister, everybody bought a plate of food. Wedding license cost $30, which was all that was spent for the day. 35 years on and they're still married. I wouldn't go exactly that low key, but overall it has resonated with me quite a bit.

Knew it would come off that way. Why wouldn't I want free money if I can get it? I don't need it but it couldn't hurt if it isn't too much of a hassle to get.

I believe it's all done online.

Thanks :thumbsu:
