Ah, Papa Google, will you ever learn...

When Google got rid of their “don’t be evil” line, it was fully over.

I protect my data where I can, I use apples private relay on my phone. I use their private emails when I sign up to things. It helps but it isn’t perfect.

At least my phones internet data isn’t easily readable by the hundreds of Australian companies able to request it. I have no idea why the RSPCA is allowed to look at Australians browsing history through the terrible metadata retention scheme.

Just another step towards complete government surveillance. A Chinese style social credit score is coming, won’t be this year or next year, but no doubt in 20 years time we will have it.

Fantastic show. The family dinner episode in season 2 is one of the greatest tv eps ever.
The episode in Season 1 where they had too many orders, Carmy loses it, as the place descends into chaos and Syd quits, all shot in one take was possibly the best TV I have seen since Mad Men.

Dont fool yourself, it is already here. Almost any person can be found in about 6 minutes unless you are completely off the grid, traffic lights, supermarkets, walking down the street, catching the train, at your work, everywhere is under surveillance.
Everyone has your details. there was a road rage incident (high speed chases wrong side of the road, nearly collected us at a roundabout) a few years back. We were discussing it on a local Facebook group page. Within minutes the MSM was trying to contact me.
I am not overly concerned, its the world we live in and I have no power or influence to change any of it.

I didn't mind it but thought it was over hyped. Definitely worth watching but "best show of the year" and stuff was way OTT.

Why would the left want surveillance any more than you do? **** all that you can do about it. Post 9/11 they used the excuse to be able to spy on everyone. Computers connected to the internet are also a way of making sure that they know your thoughts in real time. AI can predict what you'll do now. They know you better than you do.

Even when you go hide off grid they already know that you went off grid and the area so can find you anyway.

Smartest thing they did was make people think that left and right are violently opposed so that one lot think that an army of inbred sheep ****ers or a band of raggedy lesbians with vegan dildos are coming for you while they pillage the coffers.

Google are data harvesters. They aren't that interested as long as they are making shit loads of money. It's nefarious forces that access it that you need to worry about.

In my view it is easily the best show I have seen for many a year.
But that's the beauty of choice. Something you really like, I may have found ordinary.
All good.

You need to decide what threats you’re guarding against. If you’re worried about your data being impersonally aggregated and used en masse for ad targeting or behaviour analysis or drive by attacks then private relays and VPNs have some utility for a while.

On the other hand, if you’re worried about targeted compromise of your own personal data then you’ve got a much bigger problem. In this case you have to decide if your attacker is private or a nation state. If the second then you’re ****ed; if the first then you’re probably ****ed but might at least take them a bit longer to cobble together enough exploits to get you.

But fundamentally, if you’re online then there’s a trail and that trail can always be reversed with enough effort - and that effort drops over time as computing power increases and AI improves. Intelligence agencies are storing enormous amounts of data and going back over them each time new gen tech pops up. Quantum computers will likely break most encryption trivially meaning all traffic is then public to an attacker with enough resources.

Best bet is to assume nothing you do is private and act on that basis. If you want to look at illegal material or even hide legal but distasteful things from your family then you’re taking on risk. Decide if that’s acceptable or don’t do it.

Potentially they can listen to your voice at any time you are near the phone.

If you say "OK Google" it triggers a routine in the computer ( a phone is a little computer ).
There is nothing to say that it might not be listening for other key words and reporting the frequency, or doing other things algorithmic-ally. No matter how your voice calls are encrypted, there is nothing , apart from a policy, that stops google from translating your call to text and sending it to ...google.

That's why i always make it a point to talk crap, or mindless gobbledegook.

Even fridges and smart TVs listen to you. Alexa, Apple TV etc. pretending to be able to hide from it is pointless. Facebook and Insta have access to all of your stored photos too. People have no real freedom from it anymore. They blow people up with predictive AI in the Middle East. They know where you are likely to sit at certain times. AI is getting scarily good.
