I'm so happy that most Port fans rule.

Just to add to this, I keep seeing a group of Port fans at games wearing 'Despise You', ACXDC, and various other hardcore or "Powerviolence" band t-shirts. If any of these people happen to read or post on Big Footy please make yourselves known.

One game for this and Laurie Daley thought that was harsh!

Paul Gallen banned for one game

Gallen's record is not all that exemplary either.

Pffft. A couple of love taps. Rugby League's a clean sport these days. Watch some of the games in the early days when guys like Les Boyd and Chris Close were plying their trade.

Don't think many people would want to be on the end of those love taps.

Mark Geyer used to play the game hard.

WTF is Powerviolence ??

Tbh, yeah, it's a silly term but it was never really a very serious genre. A lot of the older bands tended to lace their songs and lyrics with humour. It's really just a faster, more extreme style of hardcore punk. I like some of the older "Powerviolence" bands.

I agree with with finny that by RL standards that's a love tap. Front rowers expect that shit.

As the great Hockey Night in Canada co-host (and ex Boston Bruins coach) Donny Cherry would say, 2 good guys, nobody got hurt.

The NRL have always let things go state of origin re tribunal penalties, because they know the big audiences watching expect it and want it. And it sparked the NSW side to win after being monstered for years. And a NSW win is good for ratings and RL business.

Sorry.

You really don't see this stuff any more. And have a look at Gallen's record, head high tackles, late hits, racial abuse. One game. Sure it's good for ratings and there were plenty of headbusters back in the day but I'm not sure you expect to see this any more. Not even 10 minutes in the bin. The commentators were even surprised and they're throwbacks.

Interestingly he's been on report before for a high shot on Nate Myles.

Hey look, at least I don't spam this thread with lame, over produced metal like some.
That wasn't the point of my post, I was making a joke along the lines of legitimately apologising for it, despite the fact that I live in Perth.

In days gone by that one incident would have sparked an all-in brawl with haymakers, head butts, the odd jersey torn off, the works. I guess that's the difference now and why that one seemed fairly low key to me. In rugby league of any era players have rarely gotten games for standing toe to toe and going one on one in a punch up. That's what the sin bin has always been for. But I do agree to a point, I was surprised he wasn't binned for 10. It did look a classic sin bin offence.

I've been hyper-sensitised by the modern AFL.

But yeah I thought he'd get 10 minutes. And I expected an all in but the players didn't seem too interested.

Thats fair, I've found interesting stuff on Soundcloud too.

Then got the mp3 and added it to my Spotify collection.

Mark Geyer used to play the game hard.

Lewis was a master at milking these situations. Queensland was down in this game and knowing what an emotional and hot headed person and player Geyer was, Wally was really getting into him, stirring him and trying to get a reaction from Geyer. It worked, Geyer completely lost the plot, and Lewis turned the emotion in Queensland's favour. They were actually pretty good friends off the field.

Shit I didn't realise he didn't get 10 minutes in the sin bin. I missed the hit as around the 37 minute mark as I flicked over thinking nothing much will happen before half time, and didn't flick back until about the 59 minute.

In guess watching so much league during my days in Sydney and Brisbane I know what to expect. Just watch it in full on You Tube and the fact the ref saw it and said I'm putting you on report and didn't send him to the sin probably tells you what his instructions from the refs coach was before the game.

I didn't know Gallen had gone for racial abuse. Knew that he has done plenty of head high tackles but he is no orphan there among the front rowers in the NRL.

Most loved it, some hated it. Gallen though was making a stand. He - and his side - were sick of taking rubbish off Myles and the Maroons.http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport...mate-paul-gallen/story-fni3gpz1-1226658406782
Myles infuriated the Blues by leading with his head in a first-half tackle that floored Blues fullback Jarryd Hayne. Gallen claimed Myles had been "headbutting".
"Nate Myles has been dominating Origin for the past three years - someone had to stand up to him," Gallen said.
"We have had enough of being bullied. That is a compliment to him.
Blues coach Laurie Daley added: "It was one of the great Origin moments as far as I'm concerned."
Immediately after the incident, Gallen told referee Ashley Klein: "He is getting my knee and twisting it every time. He's been doing it series after series, headbutting and twisting."
Replays showed Myles led with his head in the Hayne tackle in the 25th minute.

It's just such a different attitude, compared to the we can't upset the soccer mums attitude of the AFL. Could you imagine an AFL coach - publicly anyway - saying what Daley said???
Sometimes I wish we had a player who when we play Geelong, Sydney, Hawthorn, Collingwood etc since the 2007 GF took Gallen's approach ie - "We have had enough of being bullied."

Geyer has talked about how he idolised Wally before that event, took him a bit of time to get over it, but talks glowingly how Wally sucked him in to losing it. yeah not long after that they played together for Australia.

From the link Ford put up.

Queensland coach Mal Meninga seemed unconcerned by the incident. Asked what action should be taken, Meninga said: "That is a decision for the adjudicators. It's Origin football. We are comfortable with any decision. In a normal game he may have got 10 minutes in the sin-bin."
There is no doubt Myles annoys NSW with his controversial tackling technique.
North Queensland forward Tariq Sims tweeted: "Gal, that's passion right there!"
Mark Geyer, the NSW legend, tweeted: 'It's not a club game boys ... it's Origin!"
Raiders winger Sandor Earl tweeted: "Yesss Gal."

I think it's as much a reflection on the different states as it is the different codes. NSW has always been a "blueing" state as far as i'm concerned. I know that's a very broad generalisation but fighting and pub punch ups have always just been a part of NSW male culture I think, particularly the further into the suburbs you go.
