To draw when they needed 16 off of 18 with 3 wickets in hand is as good as a loss for mine. It would have been very difficult for India to win in that position.

The yarpies won't see it that way. They have always been a conservative sporting nation. Except when Hansie took bribes and declared 0/0 to try to get a result.

7-450 the 3rd highest 4th innings score in Test history. and 8 runs short of target is 5th closest draw.

Swann gives up when he can't win, the SAffies quit when they can. Both need a good dose of Kenny Hinkley!

I just watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards in a bit under 16 hours.

Damn, the holiday season rules.

What's it like?

I was a big fan of the original so I'm hesitant to have Ian Richardson's Urquhart tainted by Kevin Spacey's Underwood.

Well it kept me watching from 6pm to 4am last night, so there's that... ;)

Spacey is amazing in it, and I'm of the opinion that he's pretty much done nothing else good in the past 13 years or so. Robin Wright is amazing for literally the first time ever. So many other great characters, too.

I haven't seen the original but I'll definitely check it out.

I had not heard of this show until Saturday when the wife presented it for viewing (her kris kringle bought it for her).

It's the pommy one and it was pretty good.

South Africa are 6 for 420 need 38 to win off 7 overs against India. They were 4-400 with 12 overs to go and looked like they would set a new world record beating the 7-418 the windies scored against Oz in Antigua in 2003 in the 4th and final test with the series over.

But de Viliers getting put for 103 and Duminy a couple of overs later means the game will probably be a draw.

du Plessis like in Adelaide 12 months ago has batted and batted for over 6 hours for 125 not out.

In Adelaide 2nd test last year we set the Yarpies 430 to win, but they blocked out 148 overs ( after being 4-45) to hang on for a draw 8-248 then won the next test at the WACA and the series. du Plessis was brilliant on debut. 78 in the first dig then 110 not out faced 376 balls in 7 3/4 hours batting.

This match just furthers my belief that Dhoni is a terrible captain. Basically said to South Africa we are not going to try to win so its up to you to decide if you want the draw or if you want to try and win. Most anti-climatic finish to what could have been one of the greatest tests ever.

Francis Urquhart is like the bizzarro world Paul Keating.

Don't know about that. It wasn't until the 2nd last over to go that he put all the men on the boundary. India had dominated the test until the last day when du Plessis and De Villiers were fantastic.

It was Philander who decided to block and refused to run.

At the end of over 132 with 4 to go it was 6/438 with du Plessis was 130* and Philander 24* from 28 balls
at the end of 133 overs and with 3 to go - du Plessis was run out on the 134 on the 5th ball and the score was 7/442 - 16 win with 18 balls Philander 24* off 29 balls and Steyn 0* without facing a ball.

Shami then bowls a great madien over (134) to Steyn. 3 bouncers, almost a run out due to indecision, and two that get past the bat. So the equation is down to 16 off 12 balls.

The 135th over should have been the last but India bowled an extra over earlier before final hour 15 overs started.

Philander blocks the first two, refuses to run a single for the next two and then misses the last two. So India bowl 2 maiden overs.

First all of last over is missed by Steyn, the a block. 3rd ball is a wild slog and results in a bye. 4th ball is a wild slog and a miss. Game effectively over. 5th ball was a single and last ball was a wild slog by Steyn for 6 and fall they fall 8 runs short.

South Africa's conservatism in the 3rd and 2nd last overs cost them the game but Sami bowled a great 3rd last over.

I watched the first 3 episodes but the way he talks at the camera annoyed the bejesus out of me.

That was the first thing I like about it!

You see that device occasionally in comedies but I don't remember seeing it in drama before.

The technical term in acting is 'breaking the Fourth wall'*. I first came across it in my mid teens when my mother took me to see Antony Sher in Richard III at the Festival Theatre (don't ask). I went in dreading it and came out amazed. To this day I remember bits of him speaking to us.

* I can't believe I know the name of this this from the Graham Norton Show but I do.

At the moment?, it's never left me!!

Thats true, and I am the same..... But my catalogue/playlist is that big through various genres and sub genres it just takes a little time for the loop to come around. It is where my heart is I can assure you.
