Australia win Ashes 5-0

I thought England would hammer us 4-0. I don't know much about cricket I guess. And you can only guess so much from cricinfo.com rather then going to the game or watching it on television.

Saw a poll on that on some site a couple of days ago and it was pretty even. If Brad had got 60+ today I reckon popular sentiment would have been for splitting it a la the Brownlow. But nah, Mitch stood up every innings, not just most.

Haddin made runs coming in at 5/100 in every match.

Its bizarre just how shit England were this series. Australias batting you'd only really consider par for the series, but our bowlers just tore them to pieces. At no stage in any test did their batsmen look settled for any reasonable length of time. They might have had a decent hour or two here or there but just as they looked to get on top they'd lose 3 or 4 wickets in no time.

Thats the most impressive series win ive seen from an Aussie cricket team since they won in the Windies for the first time in decades in 95.

Bit of a pisstake since Johnson used to have a habit of bowling wides and being shit.

He's come a long way this series

[sarcastica]I'm unsure of what you're inferring here.[/sarcastica]

As awesome as Johnson has been.... I think I'd rather Brad Haddin get it.

Haddin has had the series of his life, but you just can't ignore Johnson. 3 MOMs basically seals it.

To think Haddin came back unpopularly because we'd lost Ponting and Hussey and needed experience, and most people scoffed when they heard Johnson was getting a game in the first test.

What a series from them both.

I dont disagree.... Not disputing MJ at all. I just thought Haddin had his back against the wall most of the time he went to the crease.

LOL who for ??
A local team in the Perth Hills. It was a T20 which I've always struggled with. I generally take a fair few overs of rotating the strike before I can hit out with any confidence.

Hey guys, don't overlook the contribution of The Boof.

Lehmann has been the Ken Hinkley of Australian Cricket 2013-2014.

Actually KP is a South African, not a Pom. He moved to England* post the fall of apartheid because the South African cricket authorities were then required to select mixed race teams. This is not necessarily due to overt racism but can also be interpreted as him believing the best team should be selected. He must find it karmic that he shares a dressing room with Carberry and Panesar.

*English mother, qualified for England after 4 years in county cricket there

The fact that I referred to him as a safa **** above means I knew that.

Imma just gunna jump in me Deloroan, go back to two months ago and put everything I have on an Australian Series win 5-0 and Mitch Johnson to win MOTS at odds of a squillion to one.

Yeah I didn't read the books & was lucky enough to avoid all the spoilers leading up to the 'Red Wedding' episode, that would have to be one of few brutally epic TV moments i've seen in a long time.

Hearing the Rains of Castamere play through the stereo leading up to that scene was spine tingling to say the least & my jaw hit the floor for the next 5-10 minutes thereafter.

That was a mighty achievement considering it was all over mainstream - let alone indie - web sites.

Part 1 of Book 3 (season 3) was loading the slingshot and part 2 (season 4) is unleashing the payload.

The producers of the TV series have been a bit fast and loose with titillation (sorry for the pun) and different/merged/new characters but follow the structure closely if not always the timing.

Quote from this link:
"Mitchell Johnson's series haul of 37 wickets is the ninth-highest in an Ashes series, but the fifth-best in a five-Test contest. Jim Laker's 46 in five Tests in 1956 is the highest in any Ashes, while the best for Australia in a five-Test Ashes is Shane Warne's 40 in England in 2005. Johnson's 37 is the best by an Australia bowler in a five-Test Ashes series in Australia."

Laker's 46 wickets in 1956 were largely the benefit of wet (uncovered) pitches, as I mentioned in an earlier post.
Hardly comparing apples with apples, but then stats across the life of test cricket are loaded with injustices.

Laker took 37 wickets in the last three tests in 1956; average 12.33 per test.

He came to Australia in 1958-1959, and took 15 in four tests played; average 3.75 per test.

I have never been this cold in January in all my life. I'm driving with the heater on ffs.
