Man I saw an episode of that ages ago, when my mate's extremely toffy friends showed it to us along with a bit of Fry and Laurie.

I just remember being incredibly confused during the green wing, and incredibly bored during Fry and Laurie.

Well, I finally bought the first season of Game Of Thrones, can say I am hooked on it now. I had seen part of one episode on ad infested Foxtel a while ago, which sparked my interest and made me mentally note that one day I would get the discs and watch it from the start....ad free

I'm almost at the end of Season 2.

It's like fantasy for the braindead, it's so ridiculously average with the most cardboard cutout characters I've ever seen in a popular TV show, which is saying something.

But gee it's watchable. Easy as hell to follow for so many stories going at once. So I'll commend 'em on that.

So you would say I'm braindead? That would probably explain a lot :) I love The Elder Scroll games, although I am not a fan of RPG games themselves, and I have noticed a similarity in some aspects..I would gather the story writers of Oblivion and Skyrim would have drawn some inspiration at the least from A Song Of Fire And Ice...the book series Game Of Thrones is based on

Oh, I don't mean that as a reflection on people who enjoy it. I guess what I mean is - it's Fantasy you don't have to think about at all. Which is why it's developed such a mainstream following in comparison to other fantasy shows.

Game of Thrones (the TV show) is fantasy you don't have to think too much about as a heap of the subtleties from the books have been taken out. Such as foreshadowing of certain events, some you've yet to encounter. And for one to think about, do you really think Ned was sort of person to have a fling on the side ;)

I think its very well written, and extremely character based compared with other fantasy series, which is why its so approachable.

Unconfirmed :p

Yeah, definitely not commenting on the books at all - I'm sure they'd give a lot more depth to the characters haha. But for example:

It seems that 90% of the characters are either "good and noble, with honour" or "wicked, evil and dastardly, only looking out for them and theirs!". I was almost offended by it in the first season, but I came to the conclusion that screw it, I'm gonna go for the Lannisters. Joffrey is so ridiculously nasty for no reason. There is no reason for it. His mum might be a cow, but she raised him lovingly, his "father" wasn't evil, just a drunk fool - and out of nowhere he just decides to be the nastiest dude in the world. They try and explain it with the whole "incest turns people mad and he's a bad egg" but that's weak as hell. So Joffrey is my favourite character, just because it's hilarious watching him just be nasty over and over again for little result.

Ned Stark was boring as hell, you knew as soon as Joffrey offered to keep him alive if he did that announcement that it was over for him. He was your typical good guy who was uncovering things that viewers picked up on two episodes ago and you get frustrated cos you're like come on dude, I've already figured this one out.

Ol' mate Khaleesi is annoying the hell out of me. She seems hellbent on TAKING THE IRON THRONE. Why? She has nothing apart from some babeh dragons (which thanks to Foxtel being geniuses at advertising, I know must grow pretty damn big if the previews for Season 4 are anything to go by. Smart move Foxtel, ruining the show you're currently screening with spoilers in the ads.) and she herself isn't really sure why she wants the iron throne. She hated her brother who was the only reason she wanted it in the first place. In fact, why did they go after it? They seemed to have a pretty good thing going at the start, nice big palace goin' on and everything.

The Baratheons all just suck. Nothing to like or hate about them. I groan whenever their story comes on.

And finally Jon Snow sucks so much it hurts me. I hate that guy so much. Everything he does, he screws up and they're trying to paint him out to be this noble warrior. Gets treated like a punk by his stepmom his whole life, his father barely gives a shit about him, and yet he sacrifices his life to be a shitpig up at the wall because it's what he'd always wanted. Why? Good one, idiot. I'm sure his story is leading somewhere, but at the moment he just sucks more than anything.

Also, the show should be called "Two Characters Have a Discussion While Surrounded by a Group of People". That's basically what 50% of the show is. No one else seems to talk. Just people silently sitting around in the background, or around a table, or in a courtyard.

Well, that's how it is up to Season 2, Episode 8, anyway.

Quite the opposite is true if you read the novels as well, adapting to screen obviously has to be cleared down.

Your spoiler is very wrong, that's what makes GOT so good. There is no good and evil.

Oh and another thing that I can't get my head around!

Why the hell were Jamie and Sarah Connor Chronicles still rooting? Like, why were they rooting at Winterfell? What possible reason could have come over them? From what I can tell, the reason they did the incest deed was to keep the son with the Lannister bloodlines, all blondey blondey and that. She was getting hers from the squire anyway... so why the hell did they decide to have a quickie at Winterfell? It makes no sense whatsoever.

You won't regret. Season 4 only weeks away!!

Possibly the worst review of a show....

Ever.

Haha, was I actually wrong about anything though?

I see the show the same way I see Sons of Anarchy. It's easy to watch and there's bits that are cool, but overall there's just so much shit I can't let fly without doing this:

Can I ask why you are still watching it if it is so shit? Seems like an odd thing to do.

I've already told you - it's easy to watch. I also used to watch Passions. It's a way to pass the time which would have passed in any case.

Plus it's a cultural phenomenon for this era. I don't wanna be one of those guys in 30 years who when talking about specific time periods says "nah, I was too cool to watch that show". I like to know and see what entertains the world.

Not sure why you are spoilering that since it's episode 1. Um, the kids are the by product, not the intent. They like rooting and have been at each other since kids

Cersei always hated Robert though. The TV show bent it to say she admired him until their wedding night. In the books Cersei hopes to marry Rhaegar, but he of course liked Ned's sister and that led to his death due to the Starks and Robert. Another reason why she doesn't like Ned / Robert. All these complexities go from the show.

As for that review.

"It seems that 90% of the characters are either "good and noble, with honour" or "wicked, evil and dastardly, only looking out for them and theirs!". "

WTF? Almost every character except for Ned, Jon Snow and the Mountain is a shade of gray. All the Lannisters still want what's best for their kids. Tyrion wants best for his family and the Kingdom, Theon is conflicted to (ahem) bits. The Hound and Arya with her desire for bloody revenge a gray pair. Mormont turning his back to the sacrifice of sons, etc. This comes through even more in the books. manureid is right, that review is pathetic.

Nope they are in love. They were subjected to the same abuse growing up and they are the only people who understand them. It was nothing to do with bbloodline.

As for Ned being a goody two shoes....it is his mistakes and dishounours that drive a lot of the problems.

Total agreement. In fact the one thing I find the most intruiging is the amount of 'grey' in the characters. Who didn't think The Kingslayer was a right twunt in the first season...but for those that have seen to end of season 3...do you still feel the same? Just one example, but you have to have that mix of black, white and grey characters as well as those that flick between them. This show has them.

I'm getting all this stuff from this thread which is NOT given AT ALL in the show. Maybe it comes later, but right now, watching the show - it's why these characters are so nothing. So if you're telling me I need to read the books to enjoy the show, then that's not something that should happen with a show.

Have not read the books.

Jamie's redemption has started in the show. He saves Breane and it costs him his sword hand. Then you find out that the crime he's reviled for - killing the mad King, is to prevent Aerys setting the whole of Kings Landing ablaze with wildfire, killing everyone in it. He's no saint, but he's also certainly a shade of gray on the show. And beyond his deeds from the start he's a mix of 'I am great' bravado and a fairly obvious self loathing complex.

Edit: Oops! Missed where you were up to.

Dude... are you serious right now? My "review" quite clearly states I am up to SEASON 2 EPISODE 8. I am commenting on how I find the show UP UNTIL THAT POINT.

But thanks for telling me what's going to happen.
