HugeJohnson I'm disappointed you didn't punctuate your story with Chris Cornell song links, half of his catalogue is about failed hookups

If A-League admin had any balls or any brains, they'd use the get-tough crowd clean-up as a bigger draw for families etc. They ought to find it even easier to fill their grounds once the d***ckheads have been removed. Their game's growth depends on doing that, surely, as general fan idiocy and administrative idiocy have been holding back Australian soccer for generations.

Instead they're tentatively negotiating an appeals process with hundreds of sporting "terrorist" clowns (absolutely no "racial profiling" intended) who know full well that intentionally clogging up the system will force the FFA to back off enforcement, ejecting fewer rowdy or dangerous fans.

Fair old free kick for AFL promoters in there somewhere. Let's hope our code's admins have the brains to use it.

You are missing one key point and that is the fact that active support at soccer games is seen as a positive point of differentiation and something that will actually attract people to games not deter them. The groups you have labeled as 'terrorist' are in fact valued by the game and that is why the FFA try to work with them rather than against them wherever possible.

And I really don't see why asking for a legitimate appeals process is seen as some kind of unreasonable demand. It's a pretty standard part of any framework involving rules or laws.

'thanks for the offer but I have to pass, I have something to go to'
"Ok fair enough"

I then turn my head back towards the beauty at the bus stop and start walking towards her. She hasn't noticed me yet. Shit. I better take my phone out and start walking the opposite direction, what are you thinking HugeJohnson? She'll never say yes. **** it put your phone in your pocket and go and ask. So I did it. I turned back yet again and went directly to her. "excuse me, do you know Chris Cornell?"
A blank stare comes back to me
"Chris?"
"Cornell"
"no sorry"
Well doors are in 5 minutes and I have a spare ticket, do you want to go? "
" I'm going to Germany on Wednesday and I'm taking a sickie tomorrow..."
"All the more reason for you to come then?"
We stood for a while talking and eventually she agrees to come to the concert (it didn't take very long to convince her.)
On the way there we made glorious small talk about why she's going to Germany etc (she met some friends in Bali and she is going to meet up with them) then about jobs and work etc, I am so in here, such a player, just asking a beauty 5 minutes before a show and getting her to come. We go and everything is good, Chrissy boy pulls a ripper out of his bum hole and projects it through the microphone all night and we all lap it up, I've shouted this girl a free 100 dollarydoo ticket and two beers (she even drinks beer!) and then when it's over we start to head back to the bus stop where I found her.
"let me give you some money for tonight" she says, trying to shove a 20 dollar note in to my pocket.
"no way, you actually did me a favour"
"at least let me pay for the drinks"
'Get the next one" I say, boldly stamping my intentions to see her again.
"there won't be a next time sorry, I'm going to Germany to meet the man of my dreams"
"Ok goodbye."
And then she chit chatted to me for a bit longer and then when her bus came we said farewell and I walked home and thought ****
Well hey, at least you found someone to go with, even if it didn't end as planned.
Better than going alone.

Don't worry, HJ, the Port board loves ya. :D

...What
Do you really need an ambulance for such things?
"A sports car used as an ambulance by a private-hire Jewish man who carries out circumcisions has been found after it was apparently stolen."

Chris Cornell was absolutely unreal last night. His voice is still top notch. I have a lot of respect for anyone that can keep a crowd in the palm of their hand, with just ther voice and an acoustic guitar.

My council can gagf - I'm not taking light globes to a Hazardous Waste collection site.

If you stick them up your bum you can see them under xray.

In full context, I said "terrorists" in the sense of "people you should not bother negotiating with".

"Active support" is a weak euphemism for flares, racist taunting and booze/pill fuelled general Richard-headed-ness.

In the ROW, soccer doesn't need to "differentiate" on this basis. No matter how bad the behavior there are enough people to fill the grounds, and there is a subset of people who are terrified to attend, who also doesn't matter, for exactly the same reason.

So lets call it for what it is ***here in Australia***. Differentiation? Sure, if you want to pander mostly to 1st and 2nd generation soccer diehards missing the "action" they see in Euro and South American crowds, to scare away the uncommitted, and to promote AFL crowds. I'll hand out the bottles of booze before every A-League game if the admin are stupid enough to want that sort of "differentiation". After the slow start to GC and GWS I bet Gil could hardly imagine a better present.

Ever tried arguing with "security" when getting thrown out of a venue? Do venue licensing laws include an "appeal" for those told to **** off for 24 hours, or for a year? And if they do, how would that process scale if hundreds or thousands of appeals were needed? If "certain groups" decided to clog it all up by getting large numbers of their members trivially banned then appealing, to make a BS Libertarian point, or to force a downwards negotiation of acceptable standards of behavior, what do you do? Most businesses would seek to attract a new set of customers... based on a cleaner image.

The AFL put in zero tolerance for a bunch of crowd behaviors and by and large this works. If I cared about soccer, I'd be pissed off with the A-League not doing the same and pissed off with it encouraging the "radicalization" of supporter groups by being soft with the fringe elements of said groups.
