PIL are excellent. It was a sort of punk response to what punk had become.Manufacture punk rock, one album wonder.
Johnny Rotten went on to do some sort of progressive synth music after they broke up, very punk indeed.

That's because punk is an ethos more than it's a style of music.
I understand it means they are daft.I've heard so many definitions of 'punk' over the years I've forgotten what it actually means.
It's the ethos I'm talking about. No different to the '60's revolution really. Elvis' pelvis was true punk man

no one comes close to the sex pistols - they basically created the punk movement = nooooooooooooooooooooooo future
When Dire Straits first toured Australia (1981?) their Adelaide gig was in Festival Theatre. We had seats in row four or five. Mark Knopfler kept complaining about how the carpet was soaking up all the music. Next time they toured they played Memorial Drive.I like rock. I also like swing

Case in point
Minor Threat >>>>>>>You should never have to apologise for the style of music you like or the artists that perform it. That's why it's art - it's subjective to the taste of the individual.
I love modern abstract paintings because I feel a connection to the pure emotion of the piece without the need of the prison of form and structure...but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate other styles for their own unique beauty. When I was heavily into music, I had Strauss next to NWA, Minor Threat next to Rage Against the Machine and Metallica next to Primus.
When an artist performs a guitar solo at a live concert, it's akin to them painting a new version of the masterpiece they created. I don't want to see a band paint by numbers and perform exactly the same way as the album...surprise me by taking the structure and form of the song to create a new piece of art that only those that were there can purely appreciate.
I don't think the Ramones did anything I dislike.Stick to your Ramones guns mate.
Question, as a Ramones fanatic myself, I've always preferred the more complex, hard rock style 80s era, than the punk era of the 70s. I feel like, as a fan, I'm definitely in the minority.
Then again, I also like Paul D'iano as the Maiden vocalist.
Some of my favourite Ramones songs.
I do like the Sex Pistols but they're not even close to the Ramones and the Clash... They're not even the first in the UK...no one comes close to the sex pistols - they basically created the punk movement = nooooooooooooooooooooooo future

How do I block you?The Ramones- overrated
Ah, nevermind.The sonics. Way cool!
Yeah but that's nowhere as much an apt comparison as you might think it is. It's like The Monkees vs The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The Sex Pistols music/image was briefly good andI do like the Sex Pistols but they're not even close to the Ramones and the Clash ....

Ah, nevermind.
The Sonics really are cool!
A bloke on the music board put me on to this Melbourne band.
Totes amazeballs kids.
Yeah that's true. I just meant to say the Ramones and the Clash are a level above Sex Pistols, no matter the popular impact they had at the time. The Clash are quite possibly my favourite band, though it's never easy to pick just one. London Calling is the best album ever though, no doubt about that.Yeah but that's nowhere as much an apt comparison as you might think it is. It's like The Monkees vs The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The Sex Pistols music/image was briefly good and God Save The Queen was a must-have album. But they were a Malcom McLaren creation yada yada.

The Clash my fav to. First album is the best one for me.Yeah that's true.
