He's not winning anymore so you'd think the sponsors would start to dissipate. Reckon he's got enough coin. If he's incapable of winning a Grand slam, why would he bother? Go out the champion before people start remembering him for losing.

Nah, he will be making endorsements for years but whilst he is on the circuit he is the 3rd of 4th best player, the endorsements are still bloody high as a result, and you never know your luck, maybe someone will take out Djokovic say a Ranoic in the semis and his experience is his big weapon in the final against a relatively young player who has never experienced a grand slam final. In 2015 he made the Wimbledon and US Open final and lost to Djokovic in 4 sets so its not like he is no good.

This really should be Federer's last year of tennis. If he can jag one last grand slam it would be a massive bonus. For someone like him, being 3Rd or 4th best in the world seems like a waste of time.

I'd rather watch an old Fed play than all the serve and endurance robots of the next generation. He still has it in him to make everyone else look stupid like he is doing right now to Djokovic. Pity he didn't turn up earlier...

But is he driven by the same sort of thinking that an average sports fan has? If he still reckons he is some chance, still feels he can compete with them, and doesnt have anything else to do in life or planned to do, he can still play 3 years, bank between $100-$150mil USD and still be retired from tennis for 50 years.

Apart from a couple of boxers, I have never remembered great players for that extra year or two that they played for and were well below their best.. I remembered them for their body of their great work that I saw.

A touch harsh on Lley Lley I reckon he lost his wheels early on myself he was lightning quick around the court initially, seemed to lose that part of his game quick... no idea of his injury history

According to google he had surgery in 2012 to fuse an arthritic/mangled big toe from years of smashing it into hardcourts while running around like a blue-arsed fly.

That'd slow you down a tad.

He won his Grand Slams while Agassi and Sampras were still winning them and were still devestating tennis players.

There is absolutely no shame in not being able to win a slam while you are at your peak in the Federer/Nadal era. Hewitt battled a lot of injury, and for a player who relied on his speed and fitness to keep getting balls back and playing.

Federer will retire whenever he feels like it as the greatest player of all time. Whether Djokovic can win another 8 slams to overtake him will remain to be seen, but Federer is unquestionably the GOAT.

Tail end, yes, but they were both still winning grand slams when Hewitt was number 1. They were hardly spent forces.

That's why I pesonly admirer the guy, he had no weapons but was a competitive beast.

Yes and no. Our choking during those years was a huge contributor to the Lions claim over the greatest dynasty of the modern era. We were as good, and we proved that, we just weren't as good when it mattered too many times.

Hewitt is a step below Federer. I'm not really prepared to say he's a step below Agassi and Sampras, because I believe if Agassi and Sampras had run into the Federer/Nadal era, they'd have won a lot less.

Yea I agree he's not in that class but I do think he lost a touch of court speed early on & his purple patch might have been brief but it was quality.... I still think he's a bit of dipstick don't worry
