The aboriginal flag is a thing of beauty.

Aesthetically any changes we make to it would only serve to spoil it, if I were aboriginal my only driver for combining it with the Australian flag would be symbolic and for recognition.

Our entire national identity is built around sport,
Thats pretty problematic, isn't it?

Given that, a green and gold flag would only further go to enshrine sport above everything else in our nation. What a bogan country.

We only changed to the dark green (stylized as being the same colour as the baggy green caps) because the Commonwealth Bank logo stood out a lot better on a dark background.
So what about this one then? KFC logo stands out more?

We should let that bogan supporter group that always sing Aussie aussie aussie oi oi oi at every tennis/cricket match decide our new national anthem as well.

It is what it is, and our national colours are what they are, and have been since the 1800s.

Not just for sport, but for everything.

If you don't like green and gold, that's fine and perfectly reasonable. Every other argument you've made has been dumb.

It is what it is
Haha I like how you say that like you aren't one of the bogans advocating for defining Australia by sports.

Oh this is lovely, because you made me Google.

In 1984, green and gold were formally recognised as the national colours with widespread community support.

Prior to 1984, three colour combinations unofficially represented Australia:

  • red, white and blue
  • blue and gold
  • green and gold
Red, white and blue form the colours of the Australian flag and the first version of the Commonwealth Coat Of Arms.

Blue and gold have heraldic significance as the colour of the wreath in the Commonwealth Coat of Arms, which was granted by royal warrant in 1912.

In 1975 blue and gold were selected as the colours of the ribbon of the Order of Australia.
I will concede one argument and replace it with what seems to be a better one. Apparently exclusively using green and gold is actually an unAustralian move away from our historical use of blue.

I vote for red, white and blue and blue and gold and green and gold as our national colours.

Yay.

Well they surely couldn't come up with worse lyrics than the current anthem

Bullshit.

There would be a reference to Punter, Ley Ley, The Poo and every other campaigner that ever played sport in it that those campaigners made up a shit song about.

What's wrong with having a national identity based heavily in sport. That's awesome.
So at the top of the list of things that flags might say about out nation, people, culture, beliefs, lifestyle, you want to put Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi ockerism as the zenith of Australia?

Haha I like how you say that like you aren't one of the bogans advocating for defining Australia by sports.

I can't change our national identity. I can say that i'm quite happy for us to be defined by sporting prowess when so many other countries are defined by war.

Oh this is lovely, because you made me Google.

Again, you've made a dumb argument.

Why do you think they adopted green and gold as official colours in 1984?

It was because they were wildly popular, had been worn by Australian competing against the world for a century and were synonymous with Australia. It's for those same reasons i'd like to see them replace the British colours on our flag.

The flag I proposed a couple of pages ago was about 50% blue. I'm proposing we keep the feel and symbolism of our current flag with the stars, but replace the Union Jack with the national colours.

Sometimes I pretend I'm Glen Campbell and wander around with my acoustic guitar wearing a cowboy hat and sing "Galveston" but I substitute Galveston for Alberton.

Because the lyrics are about footy in that song.

But I'm not a rhinestone cowboy.

But I do have a checkered shirt with those shiny press stud buttons.

So I guess I am a rhinestone cowboy.

Yeah, maybe the current lyrics aren't too bad, we just need to put them to a more Australian tune.
