Apparently Jennifer Aniston in town as well as her husband is filming something! Time to stalk the good hotels!

My boss had Hugo Weaving stay at her holiday house last year but she had to sign an non disclosure form so couldn't say anything at the time. Using Hollywood stars to fuel her negatively gearing...

Rank Arena.

One of my brothers still has a "timber box" tv.

****ing thing won't die and has an amazing picture.

I'd just about buy it from him at the moment.

Takes ten adult humans to lift though the giant campaigner of a thing.

TV blew up last night.

Looking 60 inch UHD LED LCD Smart narrowed it down to Samsung v LG. Our last LG tv lasted nearly ten years without a hitch despite massive use but all our other shit is Samsung.

Any advice nerds?

LGs are much more reliable. Samsungs are the one of the brands that get the most returns, according to someone I know in the retail biz.

We switched our Samsung for a Sony a few years back and haven't regretted it. Great picture and tough screen glass.

The Samsung always seemed to have shitty contrast no matter how much you fiddled with the settings. Anything that had scenes that weren't perfectly lit felt like everyone was in a mine shaft.

A client of mine has just decked out their office suites with Smart LGs and we've spent a few weeks getting all their branded promos synchronised across the network. They are a seriously impressive piece of tech. Rich blacks and bright colours. The Smart TV controls are probably the best I've seen too. Some so called 'smart tvs' feel like you're working with a 90s Teletext system.

There are some great no frills TV's out there. I have a 55" TCL 4K LED LCD i bought from hardly normals for $1400 and the picture quality is amazing.

OLED LG if you can afford it. You can get it for $6300 right now (it normally retails for $9000). No backlight, perfect blacks...the king of tvs.

Samsung SUHD Series 8/9 next best for the refresh rate (200Hz) which is important for sport. The only problem is, Samsung is only compatible with HDR 10, which is the competitor to Dolby Vision. This is the new standard of broadcast and will make older televisions obsolete, because unlike 3D and 4k you can actually tell the difference when you watch something HDR. Think of HDR 10 as VHS and Dolby Vision as Betamax - but no one knows which format will win. LG televisions do both. But if you want to go for the Samsung, the older 2015 Series 8 and 9 can be upgraded to HDR with a firmware update - you can get a Series 9 for $3400.

Anything less than that - go LG, purely for the format compatibility.

If 51.9% of British voters are too stupid for their own good then it's comforting to know that only 13% of Aussie voters are that way - the ABC ran a poll asking, "Will Brexit change the way you vote in the upcoming Federal election?" and 87% said 'No'.
What are 13% thinking? I'm thinking about Americans now thinking to themselves " Look what could happen" particularly intelligent republicans in the media. People will vote stupid if they are not careful.

On the lookout for one of these when I do the shed up to my inner child area. AC/DC, Port Adelaide and manly movies memorabilia, and of course vintage video games.

Need a wooden box telly to go with the NES and Atari. Already got a 90s CRT for the SNES, Sega, and PS1, an early flatscreen CRT for the PS2, Xbox, and then current tech takes over.

Did it, put me at 57% likely to vote ALP, but as I swore I never would vote Labor again, it puts me in some sort of conundrum

I will go against the grain and say Samsung. The series 9's are an incredible piece of kit. However, LG's probably come a little bit cheaper and on paper there may not be a huge difference. I like Samsung for not only the picture etc, but the software and operating system design. As a retailer their warranty claims were one of the easiest processes to go through. Contrarian to what someone else said here, our most returned brand name TV's would have been LG.

Make sure you have a look at the TVs in the shop, and ask for the remote so you can mess around with it and change the contrast levels because obviously displays are always set to Dynamic in order to be unrealistically vibrant for sales purposes. Other things to look for is stuttering (you may not notice it until you've watched it for a bit) and how it depicts moving objects. Moving objects quite often experience a blocky/edgy blur around them which looks awful.

In the end, brand name means very little and it comes down to what you like the most in the shop, but my personal preference is Samsung. I've got a series 8 myself. OLED is great picture wise, but it had some serious reliability concerns on release. This may have changed though, I've been out of the game for two years now.

Seriously - don't be afraid to listen to a salesperson and ask them the hard questions about reliability/returns, which TVs are selling well and what to look out for, 90% are serious about their job 10% are slime. You will know which is which.
