Hammer#8 as tribey says, it was a Snickers add. It was also "Elbows" Bickley not Ricciuto.

Ok, that makes sense, so it did exist but it was for Snickers and not West End, and there was a local version made with Bickley.

I've never seen that American commercial until now.

Re: Re: Saints to smack cows!!!

There was this snickers add in the mid 90's where the guy painting 'crows' on the adelaide ground has spelt it wrong, and mccartney (at adelaide back then) runs by and goes 'great job mate, but who are the cows?'

sensational add

Asif, yes the Port Adelaide Power were the premiers in the 2004 season.

I'm not sure when the whole Cows thing started, but this is when it started for me. Back about 7-8 years ago, I saw a commercial on TV with a painter painting the Adelaide Crows logo on the field. When he had finished, Mark Rucciuto came up to him and said, "It looks great mate, but, who are the Cows?" The guy had written Cows instead of Crows. It's stuck with me calling them the Cows ever since.

I've tried tracking it down and had no luck, seems its just an obsecure thing from the 90s that only 5 people in the world still remember it seems.

Perhaps you should try with some ice instead

I defiantly remember Ricciuto being in that ad somewhere - maybe it was Bickley who spoke. And perhaps like that picture of ol' Wrinkles painted up as Gotye, it's been expunged from teh interwebs.

Ditch the ice. :)

Unless you're drinking it with mixers you don't put ice in as it diminishes the taste. JD Old Number 7 is fine with a mixer but Gentleman Jack should be drunk neat.

Good whisky from anywhere in the world should be drunk neat and at room temperature.

Currently working my way through this lot.

Agree to a certain extent Wharfie.

Some of the higher APV whiskey/whisky/bourbon is much, much better with a dash of water or a single, small cube of ice.

I also find that the different varieties have different optimal servings

My prefs are:
Scotch Whisky = room temp. (really peaty ones should almost be warm) neat, no ice.
Irish Whiskey = room temp. neat no ice.
Japanese Whiskey = room temp. neat no ice (or in a glass with a large carved ice ball)
Blends = ice cold glass and a cube of ice
Rye Whiskey = warm and neat with a dash of water
Bourbon = cold and neat with a dash of water, or small cube of ice

If you're fond of your whiskey, you should check out a bar in the city called Bad Dog. Insane collection of liquor and the barman/manager has an incredible knowledge of all his products.

A couple of those even look like the old petrol

A small amount of cold spring water really brings out straight spirits I find. I guess that isn't really straight anymore, but it's just a drop to a standard nip. Softens the burn of the alcohol and brings out the flavours more.

I've been to Bad Dog :thumbsu:

I did a walking tour with Square Mile Tours during last year's Fringe and we started at Bad Dog. We were just given an address to meet outside of and even standing in the street I wouldn't have known the bar was there.

If the maker had meant their product to be watered down they would have done that as they'd have more volume to sell. :)

Swigged straight out the bottle like Jimbo for mine

You tried any of the Tasmanian Whiskies bomberclifford

I was lucky enough to be in Tasmania for an industry event in 2014 and had a tasting session with the guys from Lark.
They are serious whiskey nerds.

Other than that, I haven't tasted any others from Tassie.

Hmm... just seen that Samsung ad where they are fully scrutinising their phones but oddly no tests with their phones plugged in and charging, which what was the issue in the first place.

It wasn't West End, it was Snickers. It had Mark Riccuito saying 'Who are the Cows'.

Yes I recall it being Bickley

Have had a bottle of every single one of those whiskys. A fine selection :) At this moment I am finishing the last of a bottle of Hibiki 21 year old.

A dash of water can help to release the complexity of flavour in a good whisky -I've found as I've grown older my tastes have moved from the lighter Speyside distilleries to the more smokey Islay ones - Laphroaig is where it's at. However, in my decanter at the moment is this:

Shit Libs smashed and election called with in 90 minutes of the polls shutting. Reckon you have to go back to NSW 2011 election to get a state or federal election called within 90 minutes. The federal one in 2013, even though it was a decent swing it wasn't until a around 3 hours before they called it.

No surprise there. Lots of people hurting in WA over the last 2-3 years, there was always going to be a huge swing against the incumbent no matter who it was.

people are very smart. (they aren't)
this is problem with compulsory voting. its almost a poisoned chalice for labor to take over now. they have 3 years to watch things go even more to shit because resources tanked and by then they'll be so unpopular the libs will shit it in for the next decade.

maybe i'm just cynical because i can't remember a good political leader in this country in... well.. forever really.

I remember the Snickers ad - 99.9% sure it was Riccuito who was the guy who asked who the Cows were and someone (maybe Bickley) run up to him and stood by him.
