I'd say no it's roots lay in heavy rock from the late 60s through to the 70s but Metal became it's own thing so the early bay area thrashers are very important etc... all just opinion though I don't wanna start music wars again lel

Rock peaked in the 70s bro. Just before everyone started doing so much coke that they thought everything they put to tape was masterful. You can correlate the quality of music coming out with the type of drugs being done.
