Regardless for the reasons for the much needed rebuild, with tassie coming we simply must get these next two drafts right. In convinced we have done well last year. But before that I'm unsure. I don't think many of our constantly injured players will come good for us. Ridley. Reid. Langford. Parish. All busts of a broken drafting system and/or a old game plan.

Get this draft right and we can look to 2027-2028 for some success. I think that's a reasonable path.

Durham, Martin, Caldwell, Duursma, Bryan, Reid and Hayes as the slightly older crew.

Caddy, Kako, May, Roberts, Johnson, Vigo and Clarke as the young group.

Everyone else should be available if the price is right and some if the price not right.

I was really hoping for a competitive side next year, push for the 8 the following year, make finals 2028 and onwards from there. We are so undermanned, so unskilled and so unfit, I now can't see it for at least 3 years later than that. There's just so much to fix. We need a cleanout of epic proportions, but that would mean another year or more of performances like we're getting now - don't think the club, or indeed the AFL, have the stomach for that.
The youngsters are trying their best, but I have real concerns about what an extended run of thrashings will do to them.
To get us into the 8, within his current contract, would be some sort acheivement from Scott.

So Vozzo last night said on radio that when story came out that Reid had ruled out a few clubs and mentioned that we had raised some doubts anyway, Vozzo said it was all bs and more importantly he rang Reid’s manager to say club had not raised any doubts. Seems to imply we’re still into him. Vozzo himself says we’re open to any deal as long as it’s deemed fair
They are still in the chase for sure. Not sure we are in for a 10 year deal but I would say it would be around 6 years and top end coin.

I'm not holding my breath. We can be into him all we like. If he's not interested, which his family intimated, then we're out.

Apart from Solomon, Watson and Hooker, that is a very ordinary list of picks. Add in the rest of conman the fruiterers sons picks and no wonder we have been and still are shithouse.
Ryder was a good pick, and Winders was stifled by injury. He would have been a very good pick too.

Not sure what being Italian has to do with anything.

Stanton played 255 games as a decent player and was pick 13. He had his flaws but he was not a failure.

Hocking was a low pick (a rookie in fact) and had little luck with injury, but when he did stay healthy he was very solid.

Ryder too played good football at times. If he’d not left he probably plays 300 games for us.

We’ve had very shit drafting in large part but we don’t need to overstate it.
We would love Heath Hocking right now.
Hell, we would love Pevers and Howlett right now. At least they went hard at the contest. Even Sam what's his face now-a-Carten runner.

What possible reason would there be for him to want to join us?
So we do not join the chase then ?
I doubt he is coming to us. It will be what it is. If he wants out of the Eagles this year then they will have some say on where he goes. I think he stays.

He'll have a huge say in where he goes and it won't be to the worst team in the comp. Do we join the chase...not sure, but seems like a waste of time...but I'd be VERY happy to move on some highly paid plodders for him, that's for sure.

I don’t even give a shit about HR anymore. We will never be any good until we clean our own backyard up! I’m not saying this as a disgruntled fan but if you keep giving them money for this shit then you are endorsing it! Do I want to see the club crippled? No I just want them to get better but if they expect our dollars for no effort than that’s a problem!

Never a waste of time

Honestly, there is a lot being made out of two bit part players, who may go on to have good, average careers.

Massimo isn’t winning a Brownlow. Voss isn’t winning a Coleman.

They are performing in better systems than what we have currently. It’s why Ned Long is doing well at Collingwood. Dawson is doing amazingly at Adelaide. Mitchell couldn’t get a game in Sydney, won a Brownlow at Hawthorn.

The carry on makes it sound like we are the only club that makes these errors. ****ing spare me.
It’s not how good they are individually but what their attributes are. Good teams are primarily skillful and competitive. To not prioritise those as essential is to not understand football, which reflects poorly on those making the calls.

Yes, but WC won’t deal with a team
that don’t have the capital to get the deal done.

We whiffed so many first round picks I’m not sure additional picks would have produced a better outcome. We potentially just draft more spuds
Our first round picks are like a roast potato food truck that does a roast potato topped with mashed potato, served with fries and a side of potato salad

The truck’s R&D budget is all going into developing the holy grail.. a potato sauce

Honestly it’s sickening stuff

McGrath Parish Francis Tsatas Perkins Cox

The only one I love, the potato gem.. Z Reid .. perpetually injured

You couldn’t make it up

No question we got too cute with our offer to Massimo and it blew up in our face, but I’d say that there’d have been nobody who’d have seen him go from fringe player to All-Australian squad member within 12 months either. And there’s no guarantee he reaches that potential with us either.

Voss - that seemed to be more of an attitude thing rather than ability. By the sound of it, his professionalism got Scott offside and he didn’t turn it around in time. Fresh start and a kick in the bum turned him around, but he’s not the second coming either

Again it’s not about their ability but what they represent.

A side that values those traits, takes Humphrey. Doesn’t take Cox and Perkins. Doesn’t trade out two first rounders for Shiel.

We should have a forward line of Voss, Humphrey, Caddy and Kako. Which would be brutal to play against for a decade to come.

Instead we have still have a lot of work to do there.

Yep, that’s valid. The 2017-2020 period is about as haphazard of a recruiting period as you’ll find at any club over recent history. You could also make an argument for having Dunkley & Bobby Hill.

It’s history though, and the decision makers from then aren’t in now. Caddy, Kako & May should be a pretty strong foundation to build from

What if I told you that as a result of our poor strength and conditioning team, it now seems our spuds have somehow degenerated into deb potato.
