I'm pumped guys. Take a look at the spine. All the key positions are held by players 23 years old or under. This is undoubtedly the Baby Magpies. And there is a chance for something special. Something that will be remembered for all time.
This is my message to the players.
More than 90,000 fans will pack into the ground tonight....millions more will watch at home. It means something to each and every person.
This is what every players busts his gut for. If winning this game doesn't mean anything to you...then kindly step aside because we have guys like Medhurst, Fraser, Lockyer and Goldsack who have bled for the jumper yet lost their spot for you.
It is an honour, priviledge and testament to your ability that you run out onto the field tonight. Yet, it has been a thrill to watch you all year. You have brought joy to the biggest fanbase in the land.
If we have 22 committed players run out onto the field tonight, we will win. The beauty and curse of a team-sport is that it only takes 1 to spoil it for everyone. If every single player refuses to shirk a contest, refuses to run out of puff, refuses to allow his opponent any freedom and refuses to give in....then we will win.
If all 22 can say at the conclusion of the match that we gave 150% and still lost, then so be it. However, that won't be the case. If all 22 can honestly say they did not have anything left to give...then we will be marching as 1 into a Grand Final next week.
Yes, we face the best side in the comp over the last 4 years. However, we wouldn't want it any other way. We lift for the good teams. We hunt the good teams. Our best footy is played in front of big crowds, against the teams people don't expect us to beat.
People say Geelong's best is better than ours. That is not true. We came first, we have beaten everyone in the comp. Our best is the best.
We are a young side. We face a more experienced team. But what this means is that we are at the beginning of something special. The future is ours. This is a once in a generation side we are putting together...and tonight we make our stand.
And we as the fans will be there...til the end...win, lose or draw.
