Don't inflate his ego. It has reached epic, Ben Hur proportions already.

Thanks BH and Bez; I will give this study thing a serious try. I don't like regretting things, so I might as well see if I can get into a pattern.

Kiddies: when teachers tell you to form study habits in Year 11, ****ing form them!

What degree are you doing? I don't mind accounting, it's just tax that I find boring.

You do realise there's an accounting tutor posting on this board :D

I finished my last subject for Commerce this semester. I failed Tax so I had to do the last subject over the internet because I moved back to Sydney. Good feeling when you finish Uni but Accounting can be boring so I understand how you feel. IT and Finance are good though.

Except my tutoring powers are useless now as I'm no longer at uni! I try to be a bit more careful about what I post ever since Margaret blew my cover ;) :p

Argh, agreed. Finding it so hard to study ATM for Trials... Done about 5 hours worth of History notes and 3 of Maths, and that's about it!

I reckon you'll want to invert that ratio, Stat (little maths joke there)

Putting the hours into maths will yield much better returns than putting the hours into history.

To be honest, looking back at when I was at HS, I wasted an enormous amount of time trying to cover everything in my humanities notes, when you really only need to be on top of a tiny amount of what you look at during the year (just look at the bullet points in the Board of Studies syllabus - that's all you can be asked about, really, and it's not much. Certainly not enough to justify hours of daily study).

On the other hand, I spent nowhere enough time just practicing maths (which is really all it is - just practice, like playing an instrument or kicking a footy). Unless you're doing 4 unit, you're never really being asked to think creatively. It's just a matter of doing questions over and over again so you never have trouble recognising a question when it comes to exams.

But, shit, I'm pretty sure I've seen you post what school you attend on here somewhere, so I presume you are doing 4 unit maths, and know all this shit already.

Very true on the maths, just have to do it over and over and over until you can do it without thinking. That's all HSC maths is pretty much (i did 2 and 3 unit last year, cant really comment on 4 unit). Almost exactly the same strucutre of exams every single year and they just want you to show that you know what you're doing and the only way to do that is to just do the work until it is set in your brain unfortunately.

And yeh the humanities are a bit wierd cause everyone thinks they need to know everything about absolutely everything they stidy during the year, but if you work efficiently and smartly you will work out that you can spend more time on the more important stuff and leave out some of the smaller things, during the year you work out where you can cut corners etc. while you're doing the work.

Stat, hardest part about Math's is working out how to convert their question into a problem. I got a leg-up on this one because I did Engineering Studies & Physics. Smartest guy I know walked out of the 2U advanced exam (do they still split it into General and advanced?) and said "The onlything I'm sure about is that the answer to the last question is 1." It wasn't, and unless you looked at the way the problem worked as well as just the numbers you wouldn't have picked it up. That's why you have to practice it.

BTW, Dani3l, where you doing Mech?

Hahaha! :):thumbsu:

Nah, it's all good. And I had my first week of Uni for Semester 2 and Accounting is ****ing hard. This is not funny anymore. I've read the textbook carefully but it's not making any sense to me at all!!!

Oh and I got my results back as well. =)

2 HDs, 1 D and 1 pass. BOOO YAH!

Don't get too worked up about it. You'll be fine the second round. There's generally no big difference between Sem1 and Sem2 outline.

If you need any of my notes or anything, just ask!!!

Fair enough, and I agree, I just had History notes to catch up on. Really need to put the hard yards into Maths though, no doubt about it. And, no, I only do 3 Unit, not 4 Unit, so yeah it shouldn't be TOO challenging for me, I'm just never motivated enough to put the effort in. Really need to pick that up over the next couple of weeks.

A pass? What were you thinking?! :p

Seriously: congratulations!

Are you still using the Deegan and Eddey textbooks for accounting? The Deegan text is a bit scarier and more technical than first year, if you get really stuck you could always try another textbook that covers the same topics if you find it easier! They usually list alternative texts in the course outline. Unfortunately you still have to do the tute questions in the course outline though :(

Also, feel free to make use of consultation time... the 2B tutors often have their hands full because so many students come to see them (unlike us!) but are quite willing to go through questions in small groups as long as you ask nicely and are patient. They have their own subjects to study for too! (the student tutors are typically Honours/Masters or combined Law students)
