Better than car racing and brings a lot to the Victorian economy, not like the F1 which we just paid 62 million for
It's a stain on Albert Park. Daniel Andrews made me sick the way he paraded around the contract. Give it to Sydney, let them loose millions
The Victorian taxpayer pays roughly $20 for the GP.
Why , because its true the F1 is a waste of money, whereas the Tennis and the Spring racing bring people to Melbourne for nothing. There are 7 cruise ships coming in for the Cup, the government doesn't pay for that
The GP is about presence. The spring carnival has absolutely no presence overseas. The tennis does, But not to the degree the GP. You also might want to have a look at how much money is invested in the tennis that you're not aware of. Because that goes into the $100s millions s well.
was just in macau today. they are erecting stands for the grand prix in 10 days time.
It's a GP. But not a Formula one GP.

This is directly in response to Robo talking about Jake Carlisle.

He stated that we shouldn't be placing AFL players on a higher standard. That if a teacher was to be caught with drugs, they wouldn't or shouldn't be immediately sacked.

Well fact is, some are, and more importantly, they aren't being paid up to nearly half a million dollars.

You be goddamned sure, that if a teacher were to be paid that much money, most would agree that they should be placed and should meet a strict standard in regards to their personal and professional behaviour

Some people think that not doing hard drugs is like not being able to drive a car. No, it's not as in dire of a task as you think it is. Many of society can cruise through life without trying it, even with temptation and peer pressure.

And it's not like we're asking them to never take drugs for the rest of their life.

Is it too hard to ask not to take drugs for the span of your career?

You get paid the big money for a short to long career. Once you're not getting paid, you've been retired or sacked, then go do as much drugs as you want.

I honestly think if you get caught, maybe a suspension, I think an immediate expulsion is a bit much, but a 300 grand fine will keep them in line.

Daniel Harford also made a good point that players can easily resist the temptation to take steroids

Ethically, I don't think it is wrong either. Just like players are educated to avoid toxic and dangerous hobbies or situations, then drugs should also go in that category. Hard drugs might not give them a competitive edge, but it does give a higher incidence to ruining their careers and leave them ineffective. Just like you don't want your players smoking, you also don't want them doing drugs.

What ever its a waste of money, think of the schools and hospitals that could have been helped by the money that's been wasted.

I can't believe I heard an ad last night for SEN's A-league coverage at AAMI Stadium. Not a freudian slip, not words from the mouth of some soccer basher like Malcolm Conn, but an advertisement, pre-recorded, vetted, and put into rotation. AAMI ******* Stadium! I'm sure management laugh when they read our posts about trivial errors, but there's got to be a line drawn somewhere. I generally sigh when a newsreader (in any medium) mispronounces a place or a name clearly showing their ignorance, but you accept that newsreaders can't be expected to know every name in all of life's spectrums. But when a sports station, whose criticisms are evident and fair, albeit with fantastic coverage of the A-league, can't even get a stadia's name right, their last warning is long in the distance.

Shape the **** up. You're embarrassing us.

Just further to this, have you heard this week's "A-League wrap"? I was only really half-concentrating, but I still picked up the following:

Firstly, the "wrap" lasts for no more than about 20 seconds, and is actually just a recitation of the week's scores with a few words preceding, such as, "In the Friday night game, Melbourne City..."

Secondly, the "wrap" did not even cover all of the weekend's matches (it was obviously recorded on Monday, but Victory played Wellington on the Monday night).

Thirdly, the wrap announces that Brisbane beat Adelaide to give new Brisbane coach John Aloisi his first win with the team... Brisbane have actually won three out of the four games they have played.

How can something so basic and requiring no more than a couple of minutes of research at most be handled in such an incompetent manner? :$

Have Kevin Hillier and Brett Phillips ever been seen in the same place at the same time? Just turned on SEN and I've got no idea which one of 'em is on.

Haha!

I've posted that exact thing several times in here over the years. I've even taken to recording a grab of each of them to try to help me distinguish between the two, and yet I still can't really tell the difference.

Glad to know that it's not just me!

Likewise.

Unless they say their name, I don't know who is who.

Add another pairing to the soundalike group on SEN.

Darren Parkin and Teo Pelizzieri.

When they start talking, I can never tell who's who.

Apart from the twang in Dasher's voice, there's no difference for me.

I don't have too much trouble with those two. Teo is quite forthright and confident in the way he talks, whereas Darren has a deeper voice and comes across as a lot more hesitant.
