Possibly the best angry scream ever. Always makes me laugh.

In that same episode:

LE GRILL???! What the hell is that???

“Dad, remember those self hypnosis classes we took to help us ignore Grampa?” – Bart Simpson
“Do I ever, it’s five years later and I still think I’m a chicken! I’m a chicken, Marge!” – Homer Simpson
“I know. I know.” – Marge Simpson

Possibly the best trio of consecutive posts ever in this series of threads.

To me, the Simpsons has two lives

The Simpsons with Phil Hartman

The Simpsons after Phil Hartman died

The show was not the same the instant the guy who was Troy Mcclure, Evan Connover, Lionel Hutz, etc died

Heres a more recent Simpsons reference (still at least 10 years old but you get what I mean)

^ "Indestructible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I think Phil Hartman’s loss certainly changed the Simpsons but for me when it really went down hill/jumped the shark, however you wish to describe it, was when Maude Flanders was killed. I don’t really know why either but it just changed it for me. Unfortunately I don’t watch the Simpsons anymore which is a pity as it’s such a good show but knowing how fantastic it was in its early years to now I think I expect a bit more from it. It would be hard to keep coming up with original and funny stories over such long period so I can’t blame them. It just had such a big place in my life growing up that I didn’t even realize how many memories, words and phrases are stuck in my memory from it. I continually blurt and out jokes and phrases from the Simpsons without meaning to, it’s a part of my vocabulary for some reason and I’ll either get a weird or very approving look from people :thumbsu:

And now back to the thread.

When I look at the smiles on all the children's faces, I just know they're about to jab me with something.

Also another qoute
Homer: Carl, can you get in touch with Dredrick Tatum?
Carl: What, just cause I'm Black you think I know Tatum? Nah but seriously Dr. Hibbert introduced him to me at a party once at Bleeding Gums Murphy's house.

Its also the people we have become and our tastes, and even though we dont like to do it, theres always a comparison

How can a show like The Simpsons today stand up against something like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos etc. Or heck, if you want to compare comedy: The Gruen Transfer!

To use an analogy in another area in showbusiness - the music industry, its like how R.E.M or U2 were a couple of my favourite bands, and then newer bands came along with fresh ideas and a new sound, we might revisit the old stuff by our old favourites, but the new stuff by the old guard is just not going to stand up against whats out there now

Agreed, Hartman is sorely missed on the Simpsons and also agree with Maude Flanders being killed, was an unnecessary death in my opinion

The issue was the actor that voices Maude Flanders also died

What? No she didn't. She moved interstate then asked for a pay rise, got refused and quit the show. Where the hell did you hear that she died?

I thought she died as well, I misheard

either way it was definitely a change in cast and apparently they were not happy with the new voice for Maude Flanders

The new voice for Maude Flanders only featured in the one episode, where Maude was killed off.

The former voice actor settled her pay dispute with the show and agreed to do VA's for them again a couple of years later, which is why Maude's voice is back to normal when she appears as a ghost or flashback in recent episodes.

Man: [screaming] Forget about the badge! When do we get the freakin' guns?
Chief Wiggum: Hey, I told you, you don't get your gun until you tell me your name.
Man: I've have it up to here with your "rules"!

Yeah I didn't think she died

Maude Flanders was originally voiced by Maggie Roswell from 1989-1999. Roswell then left the show due to a pay dispute. Maude Flanders was featured in less episodes since then and when she did have some dialogue it was very short.

For these episodes Maude Flanders was voiced by Marcia Mitzman Gaven. Eventually Maggie Roswell returned to The Simpsons in 2002, and has been voicing Maude Flanders since then in any episodes the character appears in.

It was going down hill long before Maude died. Season 9, episode 2 "The Principle and the Pauper" where Skinner was shown to be an impostor, was when it began.

b... b... but 'Seymour skinner' was played by martin sheen, the guy from Apocalypse now, + the best fictional US President in history

Josiah 'Jed' Bartlett- from the West Wing

They might have 'jumped the shark' then, but it was still funny
