Miss Hoover: We’re going to take a test.
Lisa Simpson: Alright, a test!
Miss Hoover It’s called the Career Aptitude Normalizing Test, or CANT.

Dr. Pryor: Here's your scientifically selected career.
Janey: Architect.
Kid: Insurance salesman,
Ralph: Salmon gutter?
Milhouse: Military strongman!
Martin: Systems analyst. Systems analyst.
Dr. Pryor: Systems analyst.

Jazz musician: I did not like it.
Lisa: Oh! How come?
Jazz musician: The playing was good, but unfortunately you have a disabling condition known as "stubbiness". Your fingers are too short. It mostly is found on the father's side.

Homer: D'oh! Stupid stubby fingers!

Lisa: My God, they are stubby...

Rod Flanders: Are you jealous of brother Homer?
Ned Flanders: Maybe just a little bit.
Rod Flanders: I'm jealous of girls cause they get to wear dresses.
Ned Flanders: One problem at a time boy.

I haven't watched the Simpsons until just now, AFTER watching this video.

I honestly can't agree anymore with what is pointed out in the clip. Not only that it is lazy, but it has just become something that isn't even funny or will make you want to re-watch it. I personally think this show needs to go, and will go in the next year or too. There was a time when EVERYONE would be talking about it, but now you don't ever hear the show being mentioned. This show is now overshadowed by many shows.

It's part of the problem, but that video doesn't exactly explore the root of the issues. The Simpsons was still good to great for at least 5 seasons after Conan left (which was right at the beginning of Season 5 IIRC).

I think Phil Hartman's death was the bigger loss; not just for being the writers' go-to guy when they couldn't fill 22 minutes, but because of how great/funny a guy he was overall.

Seriously, f**k Andy Dick for getting his wife back onto coke.

IMO it's stupid to blame one thing for the declining quality of the show. It's not Conan or Phil Hartman or anything like that. It's just that there's only so many funny ideas there could be for a TV show. It's been going 25 years or something insane like that. It was inevitable.

The year was 1968. We were on recon in a steaming Mekong delta. An overheated private removed his
flak jacket, revealing a t-shirt with an iron-on sporting the Mad slogan "Up with Mini-skirts!". Well, we all had a good laugh, even though I didn't quite understand it. But our momentary lapse of concentration allowed Charlie to get the drop on us. I spent the next three years in a POW camp, forced to subsist on a thin stew made of fish, vegetables, prawns, coconut milk, and four kinds of rice. I came close to madness trying to find it here in the States, but they just can't get the spices right.
