Tonight even before the game started i noticed some things i really didnt
like the small things that frustrate me most weeks were there but tonight there were some new ones which disgusted me a little more heres some of my favourites

- Lets start at the begining...players standing in a line facing essendon who are also standing in a line, all essendon players arm in arm while richmond stood there with hands by side, even Knights was arm in arm with lovett murray while newman and wallace stood side by side like a fighting teenage couple.

- Running off the ground every essendon player sprinted off the ground while richmond continually jogged, not to mention polo (the idiot) went to run off the ground as essendon were kicking in, lost his spot in our defensive zone left a gaping hole than ended up running half way to the wing than stopped after being screamed at by the bench paused turned and ran back into a different spot in the zone but it was too late.

- shepparding... why dont we sheppard ever? cousins is our best shepparder and that is absolutely embrassing.

- blocking. we dont block around the footy ever ... cousins again is the only player who lays selfless blocks around stoppages and he is the exact bloke we should be blocking for... tonight noone did it at all and we consistently got beaten in the ruck and once they spread we were chasing tail..

- leading... our forward leading was disgraceful simmonds consistently stood leaning against an opponent with his finger pointed to space (not sure what that was meant to do... i guess he gave us 2 options kick it into space where he will be out run and a definate turnover... or we could kick it on his head where he will have ryders boots on his shoulders and be made look like an ass)

- predictable kick ins. in under 10s our team play for the kick in was everyone go one side kick it to the ruckman... well our ruckman is a dud it dosent work our best result from kicking it long to a ruckman is a contest. why do we give up control to contest... stupid happens to often.

- not getting back to fill space in front of the forwards, it wasnt a high quality game it wasnt due to great skill and a pace that was impossible to stop, it was due to 100% lazyness, how can matthew lloyd have the ball placed in front of him 4 times and be allowed to run into the footy take it out in front and not get a body hit from the front ONCE.

- SPIRIT, our spirit was flat out fake... we run to blokes and pat their head after they kick goals purely so it looks like we care there was a lack of passion and it stunk of a team trying to look like we were united just like wallaces pat on the back to newman as he ran into the huddle.

great OP :thumbsu:

just on the shepharding, blocking and basically all 1%'ers, we have always been disgraceful in those areas

Excellent observation Kyusss...

I have always felt a little unconvinced by some of our demonstrations of 'spirit'. Often after a goal is kicked players run up to each other but actually look a little embarrassed doing the old "Hi 5" manoeuvre.

After the season & in particular this week we have had, it looked like they were trying to get pumped up because they felt they should rather than it just comming naturally.

The Tigers have long had a reputation of being an introverted bunch and I'm sorry but a lot of that has to come back to the leadership & coach.

Wallace's conciliatory style which to me looks like he tries to mentor & negotiate with players sometimes rather than just telling them to ****ing DO IT can't be helping this IMO.

Get some fired up leaders and a coach who bursts blood vessels in his head during a game... the players will follow.

I'd prefer Terry lost 4 kilo's in the coaches box during a game rather than on the couch reviewing DVD's during the week!

I have been waiting in vain for TW to blow up in a media conference after the debacle of earlier in the week (didn't like my chances). At least Bowden's "we're 1-7 Hutchy" response on TFS reeked of getting a little bit belligerent.

However he was even make jokes and being slightly irreverent about the whole saga ... I just wanted the bloke to go off his brain or be a real prick at least. Felt weird watching him be his usual conciliatory self in the wash-up of the revolt.

Being patient and understanding is an admirable trait, but bloody hell there's nothing wrong with blowing a few brain cells every now and then either. Hard to see how he could inspire the playing group to feel passion for the cause when the coach seems to be able to remove himself from it, even if that is not his intention.

Here are a couple of other small things that have started to annoy me:

1. When was the last time someone in our side ran through an opponent, knocked them into the middle of next week and then stood over them in an intimidating stance like what happened to Pettifer? For the life of me I can't remember the last time it happened. I can vaugely remember back when Turner ran through the Dons skipper in he final that time, but since then nothing.

2. When was the last time our side has been involved in a melee? Watching at 1/4 time when Pettifer got shoved around most of our blokes were more interested in getting to the huddle than going back and sticking up for a mate. Practically every Essendon player came over and backed up their mates. Wonder if that was talked about by Knights during the week, knowing that there aren't many enforcer types at Richmond that you have to be worried about.

3. Prior to Rance knocking himself out when was the last time we saw a selfless act like that from a Tiger who put the good of the team ahead of their own well being? I recall Hyde fracturing his skull in a collision with Maguire, but since then nothing really comes to mind.

Now I know that you can't expect things like this every week, when watching the 15 other sides you see blokes that are willing to do whatever it takes to get the win, are willing to put their bodies on the line for their teammates and expect their teammate to do the exact samething. Sadly for us it doesn't appear like we can say the same.

just ask the roos and Laidley what happened at the quarter time huddle and after it. You would understand what a ridiculous situation we are in, when we have a passionless coach steering the ship. We have a coach who has been and is hell bent on been shown the exit door by his employers, having them stick fat and backing him, so as to not lose face in the media.
The only catch to this is that the longer we have him there, the longer our losing run continues and the greater our chances for another 1 0or 2 pick at the upcoming draft. Lets face it when its all turned to shit and continues to be shit, why change it, when the rewards at the end are a decent pick in the last uncompromised draft. The beauty of it is that you dont have to explain to anyone if it is alleged you tanked. All you do is suggest, we honoured his contract and we were in it to win every game. While the others laugh at us, we add some more firepower to our list with another prospective gun or two. ;)

Add this to your 'small things' rant Kyuss. Tambling doing his best statue impersonation standing the mark as Davey kicks a ball straight over his head from straight in front for a 40m goal in the last quarter. Not acceptable no matter what the situation in the match or the season for that matter.

Fantastic Thread!!! All things that can change the momentum of a game... if their was a shephard on for Riewoldt he might have kicked that goal against Sydney....
if there was a descent lead on from FF against Port, morton may have hit them... etc..

Also, I also noticed at the game on sat nyt, Newman practicing his kick ins... A couple of times he loaded up with a barrell and kicks it just over the centre square.. Why not use this as a tactic to beat the zone rather than just place 10 players onto one side of the field like Wallace had planned...

The small things I bet you didnt know about Richmond in 2009:

Positives:
- Richmond are ranked 3rd in more disposals than opposition average, which is 33.6 more disposals than the oppisiton per game, behind St Kilda (43.4) and Geelong (92.0), Teams like the Western Bulldogs are (-5.2)

Richmond also average:
- More kicks than opponent (11.3)
- More marks than opponent (8.2)
- More handballs than opponent (22.2)
- Free's For (2.2)
- Clearences (5.1)
- Uncontested possesions (34.9)

*note* Keep in mind we have played teams such as Geelong at Skilled, Western Bulldogs, Port Adelaide at home in the wet, Sydney at Sydney.

Although the points are not on the board and the scores might not be as close as possible, this is a promising sign still considering the dark thats been brought upon our club.

Worrying Signs:
- Less tackles than opp (-12.0)
- Less Goals (-3.7)
- Hit Outs (-2.9)

That's all irrelevant. Sure we have some good ball winners but our stats are pumped up by our game plan. We plan the Geelong game plan without the skill or execution. In other words we're handball happy and we keep using it by hand until we run ourselves into trouble in turn it over. This is where TW falls down, doesn't realise we don't have the same cattle as Geelong and we can't pull it off.

We should have 2 tall targets down in the forward line - CHF & FF and just kicking it long to a contest and have our small/mid forwards at their feet. Not really that hard. Except we play Pettifer at FF and Morton at CHF while trying to link up through the middle with a billion handballls then try to pin point passes into the F50.

You dont see this because nowadays it gets you 3 weeks if you are lucky.

2. When was the last time our side has been involved in a melee? Watching at 1/4 time when Pettifer got shoved around most of our blokes were more interested in getting to the huddle than going back and sticking up for a mate. Quarter time against Nth Melb. Remember watchin JON give a bit which was a bit unexpected on my part

Cogs on Saturday night. Only thing that saved him getting cited was that it was an obviously selfless act and all about the ball.

Not trying to be a smart arse here RT but just pointing out we do do some of this stuff but as you say no where near enough. The thing that is worst in my mind is the shepherding. We run alongside or try and get ahead of the ball carrier all the bloody time instead of shepherding and giving the teammate time and space to make a telling disposal. Hence the perception our disposal sucks worse than most, which I dont believe it does. Trouble is you woudl have to say this style is what is being coached as it never seems to improve or change.

A) The post was demonstrating the "smaller things"
B) It was relevent to the post name "smaller things"
C) Pretty sure we wouldnt be playing a gameplan like Geelong and I dont think that Terry Wallace is an idiot and would recognise what he was on the park.
D) I realise what we need at Richmond, you dont need to remind us all... LOL
E) Pretty pointless response, clearly have nothing better to do in your time.!

Clearly is able to coach a game of football, just obviously something isnt work out and he's taking the brunt of it. I feel sorry for him more than anything.

Ah well these things do happen and life goes on, hopefully the next coach can wield some magic.
