Leon always fades toward the end of the season.
His body is just not cut out for the full 24 weeks..
this is why he hasn't performed in finals, its a matter of fitness, not a matter of cracking under the pressure. Nearly always carrying an injury, or lacking pace or endurance late in the season, which carrys on into preseason and affects the next.

So next year, give him a long pre-season, rest him up for the first 8 weeks, maybe just give him a couple of games to keep his touch up, then bring him in for the rest of the season, he'll be damaging and magical late in the season when the competition starts getting tight, and go into the finals with plenty of fitness and at his best.. this makes sense to me, he's a superstar and has so much to offer when fit.. enough to make resting him for the start of the season worthwhile.

who cares, he isn't in our best 22 next season, so move on.
A trade to Freo with Josh for Tazz is his best option.

You guys have poor memories..
Leon was very good this season and easily in our best 22, playing a different role to last year, that was assessed more by the coaching team for playing the defensive forward role he was assigned. Because of that he didnt clock up the stats he did last year and his position meant his impact on the game was limited. His end of the season was heavily interrupted by injury and fitness issues. Despite missing several games in the latter part of the season, he still had equal 3rd goal assists (with Beams and Pendlebury) and 4th most goals. If he had played a full season he would have topped both stats.

Brad Dick is a sensation but he's young and his body needs toughening up. As much as I love watching him kick goals, he won't have the fitness to play out a full tough season for a while.. Leon is still a superstar, theres plenty of magic left in him, and ultimately the two of them playing together would be awesome.

When was Leon very good for us this year? Everybody talks about his forward defensive pressure but we've swarmed sides with Leon out. I'm not a Leon hater (in fact I'd love to see him carve up a granny just to shut everyone up) but I reckon his best footy is past him. He'll continue to play a role next year but Dick is likely to replace him once he's fit again.

This. Was borderline as to whether I've been a knocker or a fan for a long time, but as good as 09 was, his final series that year was no good, and he's been useless for most of the year. If he's not fit enough to play in the midfield rotation, he's got no role in the side. And please don't say he was forced out of the rotation - with the rate at which we rotate, and the degree to which we give guys like Steele and Beams a run in the forward line, if he was fit enough, they'd play him there. Trade, or keep as depth only

Leon needs a full pre-season and full fitness. 2009 Leon still provides a lot to this team. I have absolutely no faith in Brad Dick being Leon's replacement because his body is simply not built for AFL football. He is ridiculously skinny and fragile, his body shape and structure is just not built for heavy physical contact IMO. A fresh breeze could blow him over and it's no surprise he's had the injuries he's had. I'm pretty hopeful we can get a high skilled half forward type in the coming draft (Harper looks like he fits the bill).

Best solution is to trade him to be brutally honest.

The best solution is not to trade him, mainly because I don't think we would get anything of worth for him. You don't trade players with some talent when they are at their lowest ebb if you are going to trade them at all, you trade when they have some value. Which is what should have happened with Josh Fraser at the end of last year. Instead of potentially getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him, we keep him for another year where he is useless and now we would be lucky to get a 5th.

2011= davis>> Blair>>Dick

no one honestly will know how leon will go next year, i bloody hope he stays because i wont be able to stand it if he goes to another team and gets picked in his real position and runs a muck like in 09.

Its anyones guess whether he was fit or not last year, so no one can say he is finished.

Leon will play a role in future success of our club.

To those saying Leon isn't in our best 22 and should be traded for taz... who misses from our back 6? Nathan Brown deserves his spot after that domination.

You obviously haven't seen Brad Dick in full flight.

If all 3 of those players are fully fit next year, and they are still at the club, the order will be;

Davis, Dick, Blair.

But that's as a small forward, and the one advantage Blair has on either Davis or Dick is he can also play midfield, an area which has passed Leon by and an area where Dicky will probably never play.

Solutation = build back up to 2009 fitness and play HFF/midfield.

In the forward pocket he never has had consistancy and it is no surprise to see him perform poorly in that position again this year.

Might even break back into the side as a regular again if this is the case which might release Beams into the midfield rotation as a regular which could be handy.

This. I've commented on this WAY to much so I cbfed (soo tirrrreeeddd :P) to comment again. :p

Well you've pretty much already given the game away there Ed. Big things about Davis? It could only possibly be he's either retiring or being traded. Neither of which I'd find surprising.

the only reason he wasn't part of a midfield rotation like his AA year must be injury or fitness???...something doesn't quite fit with his season
