Toast The Steves

No credit to Schwab, Connolly or Hart for getting the finances in order basashi?

So, to sum up, the reason for all the current outpouring of love for the Steves is because they:
1.) got rid of the "clown" colours (destroyed the club's heritage at its core, I say. Just ask Moo about his beloved Railways and their club colours. Still, I'm a traditionalist. Club colours are what they are. Whether you like them or not you stick by them through thick and thin).
2.) got Lyon to the club (even though that apparently resulted from an accidental conversation and was made possible by money the club already had and a playing list that was already here).

Is that about it?
There was probably credit threads to them, back in 2001-2004.

You of all people preach not living in the past. :p

I prefer to think of it as them restoring the club colours to what they were destined to be.

If there's one thing that whole saga taught us it's that barely any clubs end up with the exact colours they started with. There's always some evolution early on before they settle on the final colours that suit the club.

If the amount of supporters dissatisfied with our four colour scheme was anything to go by it was an evolution Freo needed to go through too. I'm just glad we finally had some men in charge with the balls to pull the trigger.

You can't honestly tell me that a four colour scheme chosen by a bunch of marketing men before the club even existed was more 'Freo' than the purple and white that most supporters came to identify with during the natural evolution of the club.

Best not to open this can of worms again, Esti.

I can't help it. 'Destroying our heritage' is such an illogical argument when you look at how many traditional clubs did the same thing in their early years. Clubs that are now admired for their heritage.

Traditional?

Vics refer to the "Traditional Anzac Day Clash"

The first one was 1995....

Freo's first season in the AFL was 1995...

Ergo: Fremantle is a "traditional" club

basashi One year must make all the difference too because I never hear any Victorian media personalities referring to our Len Hall game which started in 96 as being 'traditional'.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

People just don't seem to want to let it go. Do they enjoy my rants or something?

Comparing the changes made to our jumper to any other club is ludicrous. Our rebrand went far further than any club has gone before to erase its past.

I will just continue to respectfully disagree.

Yes, I can. The jumper is the jumper. That's what you sign on for. That's what you play for.

Game time.

Somebody might want to ask the Steves why the club sent out details on how to get hold of grand final tickets on Friday, when they could have waited one working day until Monday to see if we won and saved the club a shitload of time, effort and money.

Hah this is serious trawling! Surely this indicated their passion for the club and that its not about the money. And like all good leaders they were demonstrating their confidence that the players would get the job done.

Are you serious? You're actually happy that the club wasted thousands of dollars by not waiting one day? If they wanted to demonstrate passion and confidence, why didn't they send the letters on Monday after the Geelong win?

I hope you're as happy with this when your membership renewal comes through.

Note hugely. But you're sounding like a small town accountant and it doesn't become you.

Hoping that a body I pay membership to doesn't squander its money unnecessarily is a bad thing is it?

If your local council did it, you'd be knocked down in the rush to ring ACA.

Btw, how do you know I'm not a small town accountant?

I don't. I simply judged that your passionate prose about all things purple, and sheer love of an argument for its own sake, were evidence of an inquiring and strategic mind (and not one overly concerned about the price of a few envelopes).;)

I don't mind Reg - they are making up extra savings when they move facilities to Cockburn.

The cut-off date for registering GF tickets is Thursday. If they'd waited until Monday to print out all the letters and mail them the earliest people would have got them is probably... what... Tuesday? Maybe even Wednesday?

Doesn't leave much time does it? Only the slightest thing has to go wrong at the post office and all of a sudden members don't get their letters until after the registration date has expired.

And that's not even taking into account country members who definitely would have been cutting it fine getting their mail before the cut-off date.

Lucky the Steves care more about the members than a heartless corporate bean counter like you, hey Reggie?

Valid points esti, so why not mail them Monday instead of Friday, or why not extend the date for tickets by a few days, its the club's allocation after all, isn't it?

As for the bean counter comment, haven't you noticed the shit quality members goodies we've been getting? You can't tell me the bean counters aren't having a say there.

Yeah, just the price of a few envelopes. What's $20,000 postage here or there.

I assume the AFL sets the timeframes - they're AFL released tickets offered to competing clubs and if you don't qualify the tickets are taken back off the table.

They aren't the (meagre) allocation of tickets given to the club at the start of the season, most of which are bundled up in packages and sold during the year to make the club some dosh iirc.

I thought the silver and purple key-ring was pretty sexy, unfortunately I managed to lose that set of keys around the house somehow.

Reggie is starting to sound like Luke Darcy trying to reason why the "Burnt Palm Tree" got an AA guernsey.

Yes, I understand that the whole "Steves can do no wrong" brigade are tired of it all. Perhaps you haven't noticed the backwards slide in the treatment of members that I have. Perhaps you don't even care. You have access to an instant solution to any annoyance I'm causing, while my only recourse is to bitch and moan.

Anybody know when the AMM is on for this year?

No I haven't noticed, maybe because if there is such a thing then it hasn't affected me.
Point taken about your only option of recourse.

Without people like yourself posting on the board it would all be rather vanilla wouldn't it. So for that reason alone keep up the good work!! :thumbsu:
