His arrogance needs to go?

****, as long as he puts in all the preparation and dedication he can (which by all reports he does), I'm happy for him to be as arrogant as possible. The style of play he was lauded for was one so confident it bordered on cocky, and now he seems to have lost it.

I'm glad Cuz, Judd and Kerr never seemed arrogant at all, otherwise they might never have been such great midfielders.

Get that strut back.

it's just in my opinion, that because he's arrogant, he always thinks highly of himself after poor matches, so instead of thinking "**** i was terrible, i really need to lift my form and have a really good pre-season before the club delists me", he's thinking "oh my god I'M AMAZING"

I'm certain that's it.

This must be the quickest fall from great white hope to whipping boy ever.

I like Swift though. He still has heaps of development left in him and I reckon he'll come out of it an okay player, at least.

Swift will come good. Is still adjusting to a new role in the team and is a bit out of sorts.

I know the coaching staff spend all week with these guys and must be playing him for a reason, but as as a humble spectator I cannot for the life of me see why?

He butchers the ball, is slow (and poor) with his decision making, no exceptional pace (seems slow even). I know some people will hate me for this but mcginity has much more value and deserves a spot over swift.

You can't get them all right.

haven't watched all of yesterday's game yet but from the radio call i know he hurt us a lot in the last with ordinary disposal.

it's funny how we get really protective of our favourite young players. i remember people on here still raving about tony notte up until the day he got de-listed!!

it's easy to say "just give him a few games in a row" or "wait until he gets 50 games under his belt" but swift won't achieve either with performances like yesterday.

with the blokes we still have to come back in i doubt we'll see him again in 2011.

Can't be easy how he has done it recently, he's been in the wafl, then in the side as a sub (or subbed off can't recall exactly) then back in the wafl then back in the team.... if he could play 4 quarters with the same 20 guys for a couple of weeks I think he would improve.

Look at Lycett yesterday, there was a couple of times he just didn't know which way Lecca was going to run or what he was going to do because he hasn't played in the same forward line as him. I know he's a first gamer but I think the same principle applies. I'd like to know when the last time Swift played 3 games in a row for the Eagles. Would it be the back end of 09?

I don't see how any of that has to do with the fact that Swift can't hit a 15m pass to save his life.

surely must be traded at the end of the year. however his value would be pretty minimal at this point.

When is his contract up? If a trade cant be sought, I can see them giving him one last crack at a pre season and some games next year.

Unfortunately hes just not an AFL player...

Because he has no confidence whatsoever?

Even with low confidence if you want to play in the AFL, especially a team pushing for top 4 then you need to be able to execute basic skills, and Swift can't. I also don't see how continuing to play him if he plays like yesterday will do anything to help his confidence.

So dropping him after one bad game would be the best thing for his confidence?

I think I kinda agree. I still think he has far more upside than Ebert, and on that note I'm happy with him to play the next couple of games. In saying that, I don't know if I'd want him playing in a final just yet.

The eagles aren't in a position to be giving kids games. Right now, you're in the team if you're good enough. The team has so many other kids who are pushing for selection. It's a good position to have.

This.

He has been solid-good in the games he has played. You're blind if you think otherwise. Dropping him is not required.

Unless all our stars come back this week, which i doubt they will he should be getting a game for the rest of the season.

He'd be better off if we were still getting flogged, and could write off this season as a development year.

Personally, I'd like to see fringe players given a few games before being dropped, with the sub's spot rotating through the worst three mids on the list. We won't win the flag this year, so that seems like a good way to develop the young mids (who need to keep developing so we don't fall in a heap when Kerr goes). I wonder if the team employs a sports psychologist?

It really shows he's low on confidence at the moment. He has one of the most awkward ball drop I've ever seen.

The best thing for his confidence would for him to take a big glass of harden the f*** up and improve his skills.
yes dont you just love it when people give idealistic opinions about what one should "just"do.

i have no issues with his hardness or willingness to improve his kicking. latter takes timebut there is enough there to work with. he has still only played 28 games and needs to play twice that many before officially writing him off. very few players have massive impact within 28 games.

see i don't get this. does EVERY player who gets 50 games suddenly turn into something great?! what about weedon? strijk? hams? stevens? jordan jones? why aren't we aren't we pumping 50 games into these guys so we can build around them?

i don't want to come down too heavy on swift just because he had a particularly bad game. i'm just not convinced he is destined to be in any afl top-22. he will play 50 games if he deserves to get them. on performances like yesterday, he doesn't.
