The free market does not mean that everyone can have what they want at the price they want.
No, what happens is the free market meets demand by supplying a product. If there was a whole city in the world with no cars, yet every person in that city knew what a car was etc and could utilise one, and worked for a median income, do you know what would happen in a free market?
Yep, you guessed it, competition amongst suppliers to supply the people with cars. Bam! Free market capitalism at its finest. Yet in the dumb housing market...
