also people need to look at what the charts are. For a while, they became a joke, because people stopped buying singles (so the numbers recorded for a top forty track were pathetic).

I believe now they include internet downloads in their figures, and this has rounded them out a lot more, but again skewed them, as the adult demo is more focused still on album sales.

Just look at the top 25 grossing artists of 2012. U2, Madonna, Springsteen, Andre Rieu, and an absolute shitload of country stars. All have SFA attention single wise, but dominate the pop short people outside Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beiber, and their ilk.
