1-0 loss. Damn.

Still, i would take 8th coming into 2014 part of this season.

Too right Golumless!

Cast your mind back to the summer and opening day - Joe Kinnear and a 4-0 loss, things didn't exactly look promising back then. We would all have taken 8th on a platter if it were offered.

A bit of silver lining, apparently Obertan stormed out after being told he wouldn't feature and may refuse to play again! :p

Next up is West Brom, hopefully 3 points to bounce back nicely. Hopefully we see some spending this window on reinforcement too!

I used to be a pretty big F1 fan back in the day and growing up Schumi (Michael Schumacher) was my hero!

If you haven't heard, he was in a skiing accident yesterday and is apparently fighting for his life but while reading up on it, came across this pretty interesting fact!

Hope our fellow Toon hero can make a full recovery!

I would of taken 8th on a platter in most circumstances after last season.

Oh no, not Obertan, how are we going to cope :p

Seriously, he's decent with confidence, but i'm happy to sell him.

West Brom should be a good match.

Yeah definitely happy with 8th - Pardew thinks we can surpass the 66 points we got the previous season when we finished 5th. A bit of reinforcing in January and maybe we can push again for the CL places with some luck!

I don't mind Obertan but if he wants out, I doubt he would be missed. Had a lot of potential before he joined Man Utd but doesn't seem like he will ever fulfill it. Maybe a loan deal could be an option? I remember Palace being keen on him at the start of the season. Would be good if we could loan a few players out - especially the younger kids like Dummett, Campbell, Bigi and Sammy Ameobi.

You a fellow toon fan Dos?

No Ramsey and Ozil for the gunners tonight. Should give us midfield supremacy!

Yes mate, I try to follow as much as I can although generally my NBA fandom takes precedence. It all started when I saw a half hour special about Peter Beardsley on Fox in the mid 90s. Have since been fortunate to visit Newcastle and SJP (Newcastle 2, Tottenham 0 FWIW, with Viduka setting up the second ;))

Makes it easier to follow NUFC when we have half of Les Bleus running amok.

Respect to you mate! Always more than welcome to post in here - slowly, our numbers are growing! :D

That's so cool Dos - you've lived my dream! One day I will visit SJP too!

Who do you follow in the NBA? I don't follow it but usually like to support the Aussies plying their trade like Mills and Bogut haha

Yeah that's my same rationale in the NBA. I find that I have a deeper connection with the Aussies and follow them, but mainly Bogut and the Warriors as they are great to watch. I find it a bit lame when Ausdies pigeonhole themselves as fans of one team because of one certain player, or jump on a bandwagon, or just like the colours or something. It's just not as tribal as your AFL team support which you are born into.

I guess that's all a bit ironic considering the somewhat arbitrary way that I became a NUFC fan!

January transfer window is here folks - wonder if we will see another influx of players this January?

First rumours are we are looking at Heitinga from Everton (can't see that happening as he's too old and has no resale value to Cashley) and another Remy in Remy Cabella from Montpellier (A french player - shock horror!).

sorry for the lack of updates fellow toon fans.

Some updates:

2-1 loss to Cardiff at home in the cup. Poor result, we rotated the squad quite a bit and were winning for most of the game thanks to a Cisse goal but slipped up and leaked 2 towards the end. This is the 4th year in a row we haven't progressed past the 4th round of the either domestic cup

I guess that means all we have to focus on is the league.

Transfer front - Gomis and De Jong (both strikers we've been linked to in the past) are reportedly on the radar. Some talk of Lescott from Everton as well.

Amazing effort by a fellow Toon fan - ran across Australia, starting in October to raise money for charity.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-25612473

A man who temporarily gave up his bid to run 2,400 miles across Australia for charity has completed his challenge.

Mark Allison, known as Run Geordie Run, reached Shellharbour on the country's Pacific coast at 23:50 GMT on Saturday.

"I've done it - I can't go any further, because that's the Pacific Ocean," he said.

The 42-year-old from Blyth, Northumberland, set off from Perth in October and said he was "relieved" and "exhausted".

He was just 180 miles from the finish in December when he decided it was too dangerous to continue because his route followed a busy motorway.

His feet were also in an "awful condition".

'Mental battle'

But within 24 hours he had changed his mind and decided to follow a more difficult, but safer, path.

So far, he has raised more than his £50,000 target for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and The Children's Foundation.

He said he had managed running about 40 miles a day by thinking of his family. Both his parents died of cancer.

"My feet are in bits but this ocean feels fantastic," he said. "It was such a difficult run. Far more difficult than I could ever have imagined.

"The physical battle I just about coped with. The mental battle, however, was considerable."

Mr Allison sometimes had to sleep in a "baking hot" motor home or car, go without showers and contend with weather so hot melted tarmac from the roads made gravel stick in his trainers.

"Would I do it all again? Of course I would," he said. "At the drop of a hat. No doubt about it. I'm not going to however."

Lot of controversy last night! We lost 2-0 to City despite playing well and even scoring a goal (which was not given as Gouffran 'interfered' in the play. Pardew had a go at Pellegrini and the linesman and the second half could have easily seen a few reds shown as emotions ran high.

Leveling the scores at 1-1, who knows, we could have got a point or maybe snuck a win against our bogey side.

On the transfer front - apparently we turned down a $9m offer for Cisse from a Qatar club and Jonas Gutierrez has been released/sold/told he isn't needed anymore as he thanked fans over the weekend for 5 great years at the club.

Game against West Ham tonight - fair to say we need a win to keep up with the leading pack of teams.

Wonder how Carroll will go tonight. We weren't bad vs City and arguably should have got something from the game.

Hope we can take that form into tonight!

Howay the lads!

There were rumors going around that Carroll would possibly have to retire because of his injury troubles so it is good to see him back on the pitch. Twice he's been sold injured!!

Yeah heard those from my housemate who is a mad hammers fan - after the bad luck they had with Dean Ashton a few years ago, would have been a massive blow.

Great player when he is up and about and playing in the right system. Real heart and soul kind of player - the football romantic in me wouldn't mind seeing him in the black and white again one day :)

Get in 3-1 win and back to winning ways. Cabaye 2 and Remy 1 the scorers.

Cabaye was dominant in the middle and Yanga did very well playing at fullback keeping Jarvis quiet.

Was good to see young Dummett get a run out as well.

Boys are off to Dubai for a training camp with the break coming up. Should get us ready for Norwich when the league returns.

Hopefully Kinnear can get some signings over the line - Remy Cabella's dad has said a $12m move to Newcastle has been agreed between the clubs and his son just needs to agree to terms. Hope that's true!

A few interesting developments for us overnight on the transfer front:

Reports saying the Cabella deal is close but that he won't join until the Summer (European) i.e - end of the season. He has said he wants to ensure Montpellier aren't relegated before he leaves. Their owner has come out and said a deal has been reached so it might just be a case of finalising the small print/agreeing terms.

Cabaye has come out and said he is happy in toon and has no desire to move this window (makes sense since he is going so well in the number 10 role and in ripping form).

A few less creditable sources have also claimed we are interested in Salah from Basle (take that with a pinch of salt).

Joe Kinnear has also said "I will not let any player leave Newcastle United in this window." Given we had the same stance on Carroll, I'll believe that when the window shuts! :p

Our U18 side knocked off Scumberland 4-0 in the FA Youth Cup Fourth round yesterday - 2 local boys on the scoresheet including a hat trick for Jonathyn Quinn to go with a goal for promising Adam Armstrong. Perhaps one will be the next local number 9!

His name is Jonathyn?

I'd sell on that basis alone. ;)

First time I've seen that variation in spelling!

Could be the future Mackem Slayer so as far as I'm concerned, he can have any name he wants! :D

Seems this saga for Cabella might drag on...

Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has told Newcastle United in no uncertain terms that they would have to smash their transfer budget to land Remy Cabella. this winter - and pay a astronomical £90million for his services.

Nicollin indicated that a fee that matches that paid by Real Madrid for Gareth Bale to Tottenham Hotspur would be the only way he would leave the Ligue 1 outfit.

He said: “If they want to make an offer in the summer there will be no problem….to let him go this winter, they must pay us what Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale.”

“I think Newcastle are interested (in Cabella) because they are undoubtedly going to say yes to Paris Saint-Germain for the cash – but we are not stupid enough to give those English Cabella for Cabaye.

“Remy is a boy that I love and who deserves better than Newcastle.”

On more encouraging news, I saw a report saying we are close to Luuk De Jong - $7m fee rising to $8.5 with appearances/goals being suggested.

Also Besiktas (Turkish club) are reportedly keen on Cisse on loan.

Sorry for the lack of updates - bit has happened since my last post!

Cabaye deal all but official it seems - looking like it might be bumped up to $24m which is nice and makes his departure a bit easier to swallow (as well as the fact he isn't joining a rival PL club!). Wish him well, he's been a great servant for us and should net us a tidy profit given we only paid $4.5m for him from Lille.

Typical Newcastle though under Ashley - Kinnear said last week "no player would leave in January". Next, Cabaye is off! We have the Tyne-Wear derby this weekend and losing our best player isn't ideal...

De Jong been seen in toon for a medical so hopefully will be done and dusted soon. He might get thrown in straight away as Remy was red carded in the Norwich game this morning (which finished 0-0 after we hit the goal twice and dominated possession).

Still talk of Cabella coming in - definitely need someone to come in and take Cabaye's place as the creative playmaker. Grenier from Lyon also being linked. Should be a hectic last few days...
