Liverpool are looking at Toby Alderweireld (Ajax - key target, has already publicly expressed interest in joining Liverpool) and 1 of Dejan Lovren (Lyon), Victor Wanyama (Celtic - can also play CDM and cover Lucas), Douglas (FC Twente - available on a free this summer) or Tiago Ilori (Sporting Lisbon) to replace Carragher (retired) and Coates (either sent out on loan or sold) in the summer.

Interest in Ashley Williams (Swansea) has dropped because of the asking price for a player his age and Stefan De Vriij (Feyenoord) didn't impress when Rodgers went to watch him earlier in the year.

Personally I'd like to see Alderweireld and Wanyama come in, both are relatively young and capable of filling multiple holes in the squad, Alderweireld in particular from what I've seen would slot straight into the first team. In my opinion Martin Skrtel's future depends on Rodgers' plans for Martin Kelly. If Kelly can perform as well at CB for us as he has for the England U21's and our youth teams in the past (he has all the attributes to be a very capable CB/RB in the mould of Branislav Ivanovic) then we'll have no need for Skrtel and he may also be sold.

Yeah £10m is the asking price I've heard. Absolute monster of a man and the fact that he can play 2 positions means that's probably very good value for money as we could then get away with not having to fork out for another CDM as well.

Any other CM's that United are looking at? Surely that's an area that's going to need significant investment in the next season or 2 with Carrick turning 32 and Scholes about to qualify for a pension? Or is the general feeling that Jones, Cleverley and Powell will be sufficient in those deep lying midfield positions?
