Think that's generally right but as they say, more risk sometimes means more reward. It's definitely harder to find good foreign players who can adapt to the EPL but when you find one, they normally are better value than their English counterparts. Definitely a lot of quality players out there but also a lot who wouldn't be suited to the EPL's style.

Surely the biggest reason why prices for English players have inflated so much in the last few years has to be on the back of the homegrown rule. Each 25 man squad must have a minimum of 8 home grown or English players and for sides near the top of the league competing in multiple competitions, you can't afford to be filling those spots with players who aren't going to be capable of coming in and having an impact and playing first team football. You certainly could look at overseas players but at the end of the day, you have to fill 8 spots in your squad with English/'home-grown' players so you might as well make sure you're getting the best available. Selling clubs know this and know that as a result they can jack up the prices of their players because clubs who are struggling to meet the quota have no choice but to buy them (from a very limited pool of talent compared to other leagues), even if there's a better foreign player available for a similar price.

Why would world class players go there? Not a very good league and would be a step down from the teams they are at.

Money
Cash
$$$
Greater income
Pay rise

As you can see there are loads of reasons why some of the best players in the world would want to go to Monaco

In all fairness, Monaco is a beautiful part of the world.

It really is. Even look at Marseille, no wonder Barton doesn't want to come back to England, playing Champions League while in that sort of luxury would be a dream.

It is a beautiful part of the world, not doubting that but you would think the very best players out there would want to be playing in the best leagues.

The French league isn't too bad - probably the 5th best behind Spain, Germany, England and Italy.

Monaco is the playground of the rich and famous. Very glamourous place to live. Earning big bucks while living there wouldn't be too bad!

In the world of football, money talks - just look at the number of high profile players going to Russia as an example Hulk, Eto'd, Diarra, Witsel, and Willian. I'll tell you now, they didn't go there to enjoy the snow and ice :D

Yep and throw in the fact that England doesn't seem to produce the same number of talented kids that other European nations seem to be able to do and it puts a premium on the top echelon of English players.

Why do we think a shitload of French, Dutch, Belgian etc etc players have come to play in England over the years.

I strongly doubt that the cuisine, weather or the honour of playing in the premier league has been the main factor for one of them.

Footballers go where the cash is, and if Monaco make signings like they're being linked with it will be a great place to play football.

Probably wrong thread but anyway.....

An official poll conducted by ESPN as to who will win the Barclays English Premier League next season. Results are as follows:

- Chelsea - 46%
- Manchester United - 22%
- Arsenal - 13%
- Manchester City - 12%
- Others - 7%

L'Equipe reporting that Arsenal have signed Under 21 French striker Yaya Sanogo who plays for Auxere is ligue 2. 9 goals in 11 games since coming back from a broken leg.

And under 21 striker who plays in ligue 2, yep that'll win us the title next year!
