Another Melbourne game and another piss poor start. Brisbane stop sending your NEAFL side South

footballers that just don't think about what they are doing and the impact a bad decision has. Add missed tackles to my vent.

Winning the contested ball and failing to hit targets by foot further up the ground is killing us.

Nice fight back but next year COME IN SWITCHED ON.

What the hell was that holding the ball decision against Daniel Merrett with 5 minutes to go. Hard done by in that department today.
Both players standing up and holding the ball together, should be a normal ball-up.

Umpire pays diving on the ball against Merrett, even though he is standing.

Knowing how nitpicky the umpires are against us, players need to stop putting themselves into situations where they give the umpire an opportunity to reverse free kicks (or down field ones). Referring to the Martin kick that got reversed, but just in general too, it's happened fair too often this season.

5 or 6 free kicks bailed Richmond out when Brisbane had them under pressure inside the forward 50, the Lions could have had 3 or so extra goals if some of those questionable free kicks were not paid.

Martin also having his shot on goal taken off him was incredibly frustrating. Brisbane really should have had at least an extra 3 goals on the board but the umpires didn't allow it.

In other words: My vent is about the damn umpires:thumbsdown:

Let me preface by saying that Richmond were the better side today, and deserved the win.

But the umpiring had me bewildered. I look at 2 of the mids playing similar roles - Cotchin 5 frees for, 0 against vs Redden 0 frees for, 4 against.

Some of them just came out of nowhere and didn't allow us to get any momentum when we threatened.

Still, I thought it'd be at least a 60 point loss at half time, so there's that at least.

Having a dig at Martin as if he was only one who played poorly and lost us the game by himself.

I agree. We should all stand in a corner of the field and not attempt to collect the ball nor put pressure on the opponent, since either appears to be free kick worthy these days.

Probably ping us for bumping into each other trying to huddle ourselves in the corner :p

I was mainly referring to the situations where someone is taking a kick for goal, I'm all for niggling them after we've kicked the goal.

Our players disposal...In near perfect conditions, they managed to butcher the ball an awful lot under next to no pressure. Same issues week after week, year after year. Centre clearances and clearances in general still haven't improved, nor the umpiring...what a surprise.

Who else...Dayne Zorko (the MCG doesn't frighten you/us); looked like it did from where I was sitting, but being the protected species he is this year, wouldn't expect any repercussions. Stefan Martin, still can't believe he is even on our list, let alone an AFL list. Josh Green; sure he kicked a couple, but his around the ground disposal is awful. Not sure how he looked on the box, but from my seat at the ground, Justin Clarke was awful again and as for Jed Adcock, the least said the better, just amazed he is our captain.

The fact we got as close as we did, IMO shows how much Richmond's intensity dropped off in the second half. They were never under threat and knew it.

Considering I was expecting a belting, I can't say I'm surprised with the result at all, but for the most part, it was a typical display by the club here in Melbourne in which the players were uninterested and had conceded defeat before the ball was even bounced.

Absolutely detest these "chicken wing" tackles that not only have crept into the game but seem to be increasing in frequency.

Stakes was the latest victim (Think it was Vlastiun that got him) in today's game.

Anyway, I thinks it's downright dangerous and should be paid a free against the "tackler" rather than penalising the ball carrier (HTB) as the umps are doing now. What is the guy with the ball supposed to do with the "tackler" grabbing his arm and applying pressure backwards and/or slinging him to the ground by that arm.?

Only a matter of time before a serious injury results.

They even banned it in the NRL.

Geez....you know nothing.

Everybody else knows we only got close 'cause we got the "rub of the green" from the umps.

The man on the tellie said so.;)

Our level of skill is quite poor and the amount of turnovers because of this was ridiculous. But, to top it, our decision making and giving a hand pass to someone who had an opposition player on their ass was even worse.

The poor starts are interesting. To me it demonstrates that the routine they follow in the lead up to running out on the ground is flawed... whether it's the music they listen to, the words they hear from the leaders, or the bananas and muesli bars they eat... something is wrong. They are not hyped and on the edge from the first moment. It is 100% psychological, and we should deal with it better. (Can they get inflatable Ballantyne dolls in the rooms pre-match?)
