The war against renewable energy

Australian government is estimating we need three times more grid with renewables.

Isn’t the grid something that is blamed for increased costs?
No, malinvestment or gold plating is.

You of all people should understand the difference. Most recent credible studies point to renewables placing downward pressure on prices.

As the reactionaries like to say, facts don't care about your feelings.

It’s easy to explain.

The variance between the study and reality is one uses the price to supply power when the generation source is working where the other is the price of produce power when needed.

The major variance is the allocation of fixed costs and residual costs.

Energy minister’s wife says rolling blackouts needed to teach lefties a lesson

Well we know who wears the pants in THAT household....

Unfortunately we will all suffer when the electricity stops without warning.

How about ending government subsidies for all energy sources? The greenies can disconnect from the grid and pay full price for their solar panels. The rest of us can enjoy cheap, reliable electricity from coal.

Fossil fuels are subsidised to the tune of 11 billion per year in australia.

The source of energy isn't the most important element to electricity reliability, any Victorian over the age of 40 would well remember whenever there was a summer storm then the power would go out and that was with 100% coal based power, and more recently there have been power blackouts without any real reason. Calling supporters of renewables "greenies" shows the message from the Victorian election has not been learned.

We're about start a period where conservatives will be willing this country to go in to recession and people to suffer in order to punish the electorate for dismissing them.
Thats been in place for a while
Libs were constantly talking down the economy when in opposition and egging on people smugglers

The imf :

All up the IMF projected Australia would subsidise coal, petroleum and gas consumption by $41 billion in 2015. That is almost two per cent of our gross domestic product.

Tax concessions are not subsidies. It's the government taking less of your money.

Contrast this with the government paying for half your solar power system. Or under RET the government awarding certificates for renewable electricity production which can be sold and traded to off-set the cost of investment.

Do you have a source? I assume that includes the $2bn+ diesel fuel excise.

This article indicates that globally in 2015 world fossil fuel subsidies hit USD$400 billion so by global standards fossil fuels still receive enormous government support.

Almost all governments in the world joined the Paris agreement in 2015 in an effort to tackle climate change. In the same year, many of the same governments paid about US$400 billion in direct and indirect subsidies to help people buy fossil fuels.

The government taxes the s**t out of petrol and diesel. Currently 41c per litre.

The Fuel Tax Credit Scheme gives credits to businesses against tax paid on fuel to reduce the costs for heavy users. Paying less tax is not the same as getting government money when you don't pay any tax.

I'm merely asking for a source. Do you have the figures? You sound awfully defensive.
