I don't personally think it is going to really hinder us, or them. We went pretty well in Launceston in those conditions. The good teams play anywhere.

Latest from BoM

Forecast for Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Isolated showers at first. becoming widespread during the afternoon. Local hail and thunder possible, mainly during the afternoon and evening. Winds west to northwesterly averaging up to 35 km/h tending west to southwesterly later in the evening.

City: Few showers.

I personally think it'll be average in the morning, bit of rain and the surface will be a bit slippery. Will rain in the 2nd half, probably toward the end of the 3rd quarter.

Who will step up in the wet? Who will suffer?

Or will Melbourne stay true to form and put on a lovely day, lol.

means our frontal pressure will be more effective and the cats very highly skilled and precise game may unravell. We generally score on turnovers, and there should be more of those.

It will help us.

The Saints and Dogs have the best footskills of any teams.

I think the Dogs can be more disappointed they lost to the Cats than us. They had that in the bag and let Scarlett/Milburn walk on their shitty forward line.

We will not let that happen.

won't help or hinder either side. remembering Geelongs Performance against Brisbane in the wet. But what it will do will make for an even more classic contest. The pressure will be immense. How ironic that the clear2 best sides could play 2 classic encounters in 2 totally opposite sets of conditions.:thumbsu:

Both of us rely on keeping possession, Geelong arguably play the higher possesion game (as we chip around to set up whereas they move and spread to ball live) so in that regard the Cats would need to have exquisit disposal as if they screw up we willmost likely be keeping it for a score.

That's about the only impact it'll have unless someone gets KO'd by a hailstone or blinded by lightning reflecting off Ablett & Chapmans heads.

:thumbsu: - it did not rain much during the match but i'll tell you all WHAT.... it rained very heavily before the match and was misty during the game... so we had experience in that game of the damp ball on a wet surface

hey folks.

i recall the same theory being discussed last week regarding the pies' style of play. the experts and many other suggested the wet would suit the pies as they kick long and direct, whereas the cats 'overposess'. the slippery conditions did not hinder the cats, rain hail or shine they are a highly skilled side.

weather will not mean a lot. the geelong and st.kilda are both well drilled and skilled. the one area it may come into play is in the closer, body to body game that will occur if it is wet. the bigger bodies will get the clearances. who has the bigger bodies?

i suspect the small forwards and the goal kicking mids will have the biggest say tomorrow. who will come to the party? can't wait to find out.

may the best team (on the day!) win.

Funny, I'm wondering where I used the words "over-possess" because I simply cannot find them in the quoted section or my entire post. Must be the Geelong education system at its finest again.

stop splitting hairs and just discuss the game.

Stop putting words in my mouth and we won't have a problem flog. I speak for me, not you.

Goodness me! You are tense. I think I'll leave it there. And seek (no doubt in vain) out a thread where football is discussed calmly and logically preferably without undue aggression and abuse.

In the Hun

Gablett says he's praying for rain.

I'd prefer sunny, just cause its a better spectacle.

To me, the rain will help us from the point of view that as the cats like to kick many a goal from outside 50, which will be tough in the conditions so will help to reduce one avenue, which the Bulldogs took advantage of last week.

Exactamundo, Rain helps defensive teams, Geelong has been all over the media this week, One of them was quoted as saying that Global Warming helped their tap outs or something.....

The wet weather could both hinder and help us. It will reduce our key forward strength of Riewoldt & Kosi but should suit our high pressure, frenzied tackling style. The Cats high possession run and handball game could really be put under pressure in the wet and give us the chance to turn the ball over.

Going to be crucial that Milne and Schneider stand up and kick some goals as it will be difficult for our big guys to take clean grabs in the forward line.

I also think someone like Armitage could be very handy up forward too as he will suit the conditions and can find the big sticks. They could possibly bring him in for one of our big blokes (King perhaps?), but it would be a big call to make a late change like that and I doubt they would do it.

Congratulations. You must be so proud of an 11 goal win over the biggest bunch of front runners in the league. Need I remind you of our 93 point win over Brisbane in similar conditions, against a team who is a lot harder at the ball than what Port Adelaide will ever be.

Yep, I bet the Dogs went into three quarter time of that game patting each other on the back in congratulations that they had the game in the bag when they were 6 goals down.

Yes because Brisbane on the road is such an awesome outfit .

Well, they pushed you for three and a half quarters, so they can't be too bad. :p And we all know Port Adelaide were a bunch of world-beaters this season too.

Yeah, I mean, look at what they did to Port at AAMI.

Either way, Riewoldt dominated that night - as if the wet will stop him. In fact, in the wet he may be the only player on the field that is able to mark the ball.
