With more than half of our backline injured, we have had no choice but to have Will in the side. He has been in the system for quite a long time now and he has failed to live up to the expectations of the staff and supporters. However, his past month has been superb. He has shut-down every opponent that he is up against and has been extremely beneficial for us. If he continues his current form, it would be injustice to drop him for say Dylan Grimes or David Astbury, whom are both injured.

Rance has secured the full-back position. Moore has been told that he can play next year. Grimes was promising. Post is too good for VFL and has shown enough to prove that he can play at professional level. We have also been linked with young Port Adelaide centre-half back Jackson Trengrove. We can't throw all of that young talent away can we?

Ask yourself this. Thursfield is playing great footy in 2012 and Grimes is fit and ready, would you make the swap? Now this, Post is playing great footy in 2012, would you drop him for Moore or Astbury?

Realistically, we can only fit in 3 KPDs in the squad.
B Newman Rance Grimes/Thursfield
HB Houli Moore/Astbury/Post Batchelor

Can we fit Will into the side? If so, how?

More and more it seems less need for Trengove. Which is good.

Post simply has to keep playing at CHB his spoiling was excellent early, faded a bit and a few hiccups in possession a handball across goal and a scrubby kick to Grigg after a good mark. But he needs experience and a lot of it.

Dont let these last few weeks cloud your judgement guys

Post is the future
Grimes is the futur
Astbury is the future
Rance is the future

Thursfield is trade bait (thanks will for increase in value)
Mguane is also trade bait (not sure there will be a taker)

If Jackson Trengove can be Secured make no mistake we must do everything to get him ........ Plays CHB , CHF , Ruck along with Post & Vickery Gives us unbelievable Flexability & Unpredictability.

Trengove re-signed the other day. We won't be getting him.

Source.
No loss either way, he simply is not that good and I would rather Post at CHB

Depth is what we need and we are finally getting some good depth down back.

I'll say it again, if our coaching Staff cant develop a strong defence out of, Grimes, Rance, Moore, Thursfield, Mcguane, Post, Astbury, Houli, Batchelor, Deledio, Gourdis Grigg then we need a new coaching staff.
Use the draft to replace Moore, Mcguane and Thursfield over time....

Astbury was recruited as a forward. Ideally he grows into the role that Miller has been playing (and playing it quite well...). If Astbury can play that role, then it's one less vying for a spot down back.

I would keep Will, and at worst he will be keeping pressure on guys like Grimes, Moore, Batchelor, Dea etc. to keep their form up, or they will be out of the seniors. It is a good problem to have.

McGuane must go. Gourdis must be hanging by a thread too, which is a shame. I thought he might step up sooner rather than later.

I'd take them in this order: Rance, Grimes, Post, Gourdis, Astbury, Thursfield, Moore, McGuane - agree don't need Trengove (what he'd cost is more the concern) and I'd de-list or trade both Moore and McGuane. Harsh on Moore, but don't reckon you can miss a year and hold your form. Thursfield has shown flexibility to play on different sizes and is in good form, so he survives. Astbury and Goo can also go forward if need be.

Up to 6 key backmen may sound excessive, but injuries will probably cut that back to 4-5 to select from most weeks.
