Not sure about everyone but with a week to go in the 2010 season I'm quite optimistic about how things are looking for the future. Sure there is still a bit of work to do before we can be considered a genuine contender but the way the side is shaping up I don't believe it will be long until we are.

Down back Gourdis and Astbury give us 2 genuine KPD in terms of height, Astbury needs to get stronger while both need more experience. McGuane has also shown that he can play as a KPD and with the 3 of them I think we are well set for KPD. Moore & Thursfield strike me as 3rd tall options who can play on the midsized or small forwards. Neither are big enough to play KPD and should only be forced to do so in extreme circumstances.

Deledio Newman Connors Farmer Rance Webberley Dea & O'Rielly is a good group of rebounding HFB small defenders to build on. If we can add a couple more quality ball users in the draft we should be able to release someone like Lids and/or Connors into the midfield rotation.

In the midfield we look like we're putting together a group that will be both a powerful & skillful one in a few years time. Cotchin Martin Morton Edwards Jackson & Tuck gives us a solid foundation to build on. Then there are kids like Nason & Collins who could float through there next year as well as the possibility of Foley coming back. Lets not forget that we're likely to add another quality kid with our first pick and the midfield should be set for the future. Graham Browne & Vickery is a good young group of ruckmen that could do with the addition of another younger ruckman.

Up forward Jack has established himself as one of the best KPF in the league, while Griffiths & Post have both shown enough to suggest that with gametime both could be more than handy foils for Jack in the future. Taylor, Collins, Hicks, King White & Nason provide the small mid sized options that are going to be important in the future.

Like I said I'm not expecting miracles next year but I do believe that we've now got a solid group for Hardwick and co to work with over the next 12 months and by 2012 we should be right in there fighting for a top 8 spot at the very least.

Now I realise that there will be some posters out there who won't share the same optimistic view and will need a little more convincing before they change their tune and jump on the bandwagon but I'm sure that this time next year we'll all be looking forward to a successful era.

Yeah just like the end of 2008....let's just wait and see this time, shall we, personally I think your post reeks of oh-so-typical Richmond disease of listus overratus (usually occurs on the back of half a season of half-decent results)...seems that, just like Craig Cameron...we never really learn...:o

Correct. By 2012 we will surge, mark my words. We need another year to blood new talent and experiment more. We still dont have a solid best 22 and there are still a lot of passengers. We still need another year to see who has got it and who doesn't in each position before we settle the team for the future.

The midfield is not set even if we pick a top midfielder draft pick. We will lose Cousins and soon Tuck and have no depth. Compare Geelongs midfield to ours and we need 2 more elite midfielder draft picks. Midfielders win premierships. We want a surplus of elite talent that can play in other positions (i.e. Chapman, Steve Johnson, Ablett, etc.) and rest while still having elite talent in the middle. Players like Nason and White done cut it sorry. We will get there soon, and this problem can be solved in the next 2 drafts.

Lots of promise and every year we blow each others pipes only to be bitterly let down again.

Let's just enjoy watching our youngsters develop and let it take care of itself. :thumbsu:

Neither are big enough to play KPD and should only be forced to do so in extreme circumstances.

After flogging Hall, Tippett, and giving up 2 goals to Riewoldt (one of which was dribbled off the ground in the forward pocket), I think this line about Thursfield has been well and truly knocked off. It's never been his stopping that has been a problem, just the rebound (which is also the problem with McGuane).

Thursfield will never be able to play as a 3rd tall/versatile defender because he can't rebound. Moore will play out the rest of his career in this role and I'd suspect that Dea will be groomed to take over from him.

I agree with everything else except the forward line, where we will need to put in some serious work to get it up to scratch. Fortunately we already have an elite KPF to build around, but so far Post and Griffiths have shown nothing to say they'll make it and our medium/smalls (except Morton who has now moved into the midfield) just don't cut it yet.

The future of our midfield (and probably our whole team) will depend on whether Foley can overcome his injury troubles. If he gets back, suddenly we've got a absolutely top notch midfield, but otherwise we'll need to continue adding to it.

There is a big difference 2008 was achieved on the back of guys Richo Brown Johnson Bowden & Simmonds, while 2010 is being achieved on the back of players like Deledio Riewoldt Cotchin Martin and a bunch of other kids. I suppose its a bit hard to see that watching games on TV every week rather then being in the stands every week and seeing what really happens.

hey quick 1, does anyone thinks it would be worth us going hard for Rischitelli from the lions, seeming that the rumour is he wants out of the lions after Voss shopped him around last year?

He could be a perfect fit for our midfield and could still be a 8 year player for us!

We're supposedly talking to a couple of 24 year olds a 23 year old and 22 year old IIRC so maybe a chance.

i think with pick 2 in the Pre-season draft could hold us in good stand if we can get him to declare he wants to come to us.

Nice nice! ive gotta admit it finally nice to have players want to come to the club now.....we haven't had anyone want to come to Richmond since browny and now we're on a good path with Dimma and co we can start attracting big name players! :thumbsu:

As for our general list it is in a good spot.

I must admit King impressed me as a FP last night and the little tacca could have found a position which would see him be quite valueble at AFL level. Just due to his intensity he applies defensive pressure and is hard at it. If he turns it over it is not as costly either.

The rest of our side is looking quite good and the difference between 08 is that it is all kids not 28-30 yr olds. if Foley comes back our midfield will be top 3 within 2 years by adding Atley or Gaff as well.

Looking forward to the draft and seeing these guys add weight and fitness over the pre season.

alsong as we keep pick 6 id be happy to part with our 2nd round pick and a later round pick seeming the picks will be alot later than usual, maybe send jordy up there aswell ;) ahhh we can only dream!

In all seriousness though, if he's upset with Voss he might be willing to walk to us in the PSD

Mitch Morton actually wanted to come to richmond !

as far as rischatelli is concerned, psd would be great but honestly unless he is after the cash & we promise him 600-700k cant see it happening

polo, nahas, hislop, thomson, mcguane, thursfield, moore, white, tambling, tuck should all be on the table for trade if there are any takers or a trade of any of these players for rischatelli would be great outcome.

dont forget who we are dealing with here guys.................VOSS

Things Are Looking Good For The Future..BUT Im expecting that next year we will have about the same amount of wins as this year.

The remainder of Dimma's game plan will be rolled out next year so expect some steps backward as the group comes to grips with this. The dredded learning curve.

With next years emphasis to be continued Shuffling of players to find the right combination.

I think Tambling should be retained and should be given a good run in the forward line. He is still a classy player with great ball use.

Tuck has been re signed so i dont think he will be traded now.

Things are looking better for the future than I thought it would in rnd 21.
Hopefully some smart trades and drafts help the next phase of the gameplan see us win a few more next season... maybe 7-10 wins? or is that too hopeful?

We were relying on Richo, Brown, Simmonds, Coughlan and Bowden back then. This is a very different situation

Next year will tell a better tale of where we are truly at, cant read anything into this season imo... some players have played above themselves due to a new coach, how they back it up is always interesting and there'll be plenty of 2nd year blues from youngsters, ie look at Post, last season ppl were creaming themselves , this year he's been superbad. Nex year we will have a much better idea of where this list is at.

one significant difference is we won't be depending on two 30 somethings to repeat their efforts as in simmo and brown that both presented like a collapsed balloon from the outset in 2009, that's some momentum:o
