It may sound odd but i think if the title fightclub was something diffferent, like “Insomnia” (tho that was already taken), or maybe “project mayhem” the movie would have done better at box office and with critics. but calling it fight club and advertising it as a guy movie about fighting was terrible.

I watched Pulp Fiction again recently and I don't know whether it's because I'm 25 years older since I first saw it but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I did in my mid twenties. The glorified over the top violence just feels so unnecessary to me now.

Guy with picture from MCU film complains about graphic violence

Well I never

Who still has a DVD player? and do you still play your old DVD's? I couldn't be arsed looking for and loading an actual DVD when everything at my fingertips nicely organized on a hard drive.

Yes and yes.

I do enjoy technology but putting a disc in the player is to me infinitely easier than getting a digital one going.

I still have a VHS connected but that's specially reserved for Star Wars.

i still have dvd's, blu-rays/4k movies, still have dvd/vcr combo connected, i was pissed when my mum threw away my beta player that i left at her place, but i also have movies and tv shows stored on a hard drive

That might just be because they’ve really mined that ip to its death more than “token” casting. I take your point though best character/actor for the part. Just saying plenty of people (not you) go in with the mindset that the film will be trash because of the “token” casting and your mindset before seeing a film impacts the way you view it.

They have mined the IP to death (VII was very derivative, VIII just shit) but the shit character development has just amplified the tokenism. Rose Tico added nothing, Laura Dern's character was a just a joke.

I went along to the first one (TFA) wondering how a black stormtrooper works and that made sense given the 'first order' weren't clones. Didn't love the film but it wasn't terrible and introduced some new arcs and characters. Went to the second one (TLJ) not really expecting anything in particular and thought it was a steaming pile of woke shit.

It is

Great movie, but people seem to go on about it because it’s what everyone else does. They think it makes them look cool and deep to call it their favourite movie.

The Green Mile is better
I forgot about Green Mile

But Shawshank and Cuckoos Nest ( for me) represent the little mans fight against the system and the ultimate freedom both major characters achieve. The acting was top notch ( casting maybe not so) and the ensemble was solid

I’d have to take your word for it, not a Star Wars person

I changed my mind after not liking in it the cinema and now think TLJ isn't bad but I hate what they did to Hux's character.

Well im not talking about recasting Leo... that presents a whole bunch of other stuff you’re talking about (including losing the chemistry of the leads who turned out to be one of modern cinemas great leading couples).

Again the point is one person of color being in the film wouldn’t have made much if any difference to me or likely you but given the history of casting and white washing might have been helpful for a whole group of people.

Recasting Leo with a black actor changes the dynamic significantly because it's not 2019, it's 1912. It becomes a mixed race love story in an era when that was not common or approved of, with a lead character that was a 1 in 1000 chance to even be on the vessel in the first place. I mean you can do that if you want, but social attitudes towards race relations aren't a central theme of the film.

Personally I don't really care about 'whitewashed' films. If it's something like a Vietnam War film made in Hollywood and it's 100% white then get back to me, but historical context does matter.

Green mile way better than Forrest
Also like Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafe

Wow FGT now theres a movie i havent seen in yonks. Takes me back to when i was a kid. For some reason the following titles come up and im back to that era- Cape Fear, Hand that rocks the cradle, Dirty Dancing, Commando, Mommie Dearest, Whatever happened to baby Jane and The Birds. Yep these are the kind of movies i was watching from about 10 yo on...

we had FGT on the plane to LA back in 1992, i think it was the only movie they had, it was on repeat the whole flight and then we copped it on the way back aswell, never watching again

For the fourth time, not talking about recasting Leo.
